Default Please help me decide on what lsa S1 cam to run on my MTI427 Ironblock on my 98 A4 C5

MTI is just starting the build on my MTI 427 Ironblock Superstroker LS1 for my 98 Vette Roadster A4 with Yank PT 4000 stall.

I am looking to make maximum power and run 10s on motor and will be using MTIs most radical performance stroker cam, that being the S1 which is a 244/244, .612 lift on a 112 LSA.

I know that this cam will be barely streetable on a 112 LSA on my C5, but this car is only a weekend toy/warrior and occassional drag racer at the strip, and is the farthest thing from a daily driver. That having been said, the car still needs to be drivable and i do not want to be stalling at stop lites, etc. but don't mind a very lopey erradic big block hot rod idle as long as i don't stall.

MTI can give me this same bad **** cam on a 113 or 114 lsa instead of a the 112lsa, and i wonder if that makes more sense, as my baby still needs to be streetable and will be driven 80 miles to the track and back home, and driven to local car shows and events.

Do you think this cam will be streetable on the 112 lsa and what lsa do you recommend and why. Also, million dollar question is will the 114 lsa get beat by the 112 lsa in the 1/4 mile, everything else being 100% equal, as i want to get the best 1/4 mile times possible out of this set up BUT DON"T WANT TO STALL ON THE STREET!

THanks,

MTI 427 Z07 ROADSTER

PLEASE keep in mind that my car is an A4 and not a M6 and we all know that the A4 have worse street maners than M6s with huge aggressive cams.

I would stick with 112 myself. It seems to work for everyone else.Of course there is nothing wrong with being different though.Wish I had the change to do it myself.Goodluck on your decision.

You will drive this car on the street more than at the race track. Make the combination streetable. Go with a 114 or 115 LSA. Your motor (427) will make pleanty of torque. Give it some help on the top end.

427 Z06:

What LSA are you running on your ARE Built 427? Also, if you don't mind, are you able to share your cam specs.?

Thanks,

ps-How many guys do you guys know running these aggressive cam specs on a A4 with a 112lsa, other than Pro stock John?

If I was going to drive it much on the street I'd go with 114-115. The difference in 1/4 mile performance will be basically nothing but the difference in street manners will be very noticable.

If it were an M6 I'd probably go with a 112.

PSJ, you didn't get your S1 cam from MTI, is it made by Comp? You know yours is 242?

My cam is from ARE/ Comp, and it's S1 per the cam card it's the same as Tony's.

Roadsta, I might be dropping off my car at Speed Inc. on Saturday so we can test the fuel system.

I would go with the 114LSA with 4 degrees advance ground in.
Cheers,

95% of the time my car will start up and idle without two-footing it.

My car idles at like 1050.

The S1 is actually a 242/242 not a 244/244.

It depends on what your goals are, you will need to run a lot of stall to get your heavy pimptop into the 10's. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

Pro Stock John:

Both Jayson, the owner of MTI and the specs. listed on MTI's website and the specs. listed by Nineball under his homepage for his car, state that the CURRENT S1 cam that MTI is using is a 244/244 and not a 242/242! Perhaps the cam specs have been upgraded since you purchased yours?

I take it from your post that if you had to do it all over again, you would still go with the 112lsa on your cam? Also, are you going to be around Saturday in the morning or early afternoon as i would like to swing by to hear how your TANK idles with the big cubes and cam going thru the FLP Tranny.

THanks,
