Re: HP numbers out of ARE 422 LQ4?
I'm new to this board and not familiar with many of the FBODY drag race oriented guys here and am only aware of Pro Stock John who has this exact engine and recently retuned and dynoed at approx. 470rwhp and 505rwtq thru i believe an unlocked converter.
I am very interested in this also as i just put a deposit down for MTI to build me this same engine for my 98 C5 A4 vert, to compliment my FLP level 4 tranny, Yank, PT 4000 stall (2.7str ) and Getrag 3.73s.

My ARE 427 Z06 Steel block, dynoed SAE 490 RWHP and 494 RWTQ. Cam 237/242 114LSA. This engine was built 18 months ago using the older head porting design. Newer heads from ARE are making significant gains from the heads on my car. Do date this engine has been flawless, not even a hiccup. Their ongoing support to me has been superb.

Re: HP numbers out of ARE 422 LQ4?
My ARE 396 cid motor built well over 2 years ago made 410 RWHP and 511 RWTQ with a ls1 intake. I have a ARE 385 with a modified t76 turbo tec kit on the car it is very close to completion. What IO have noticed with ARE is that there heads dont make the best peak HP but offer a very flat power band and better average HP and TQ. I have seen there cars make up to 3 less RWHP just to et a half second better in simalar cars. Its your choice who you go with I guess.

I am running a hydraulic cam...
Is this the same Gordon who almost got both of us arrested for autotapping/ running a low 10 second LS1 all out on Cicero Avenue?

Re: HP numbers out of ARE 422 LQ4?
Just my 2 cents but I have been looking and doing alot of research on big cube LS1's and I think I will be giving them a call after scattering my stock motor last week. They seem to be the only ones who have their big bore motors staying dry.And how much more power do you really need IMO again just my 2 cents.

Re: HP numbers out of ARE 422 LQ4?
The Car Austrian Vette is talking about believe is a 98 A4 Cartek built 422, which dynoed at 504rwhp thru the Large stall A4 at Cartek. The car has 12:1 compression and runs a radical .625 lift cam on a 108lsa. The previous owner went by the name of Blackthunder on the corvette forum and has been bought by a friend of mine, Kwik8Racer on the vette forum, who lives in Rockford, IL (1 west of Chicago) and that's where the car is now.
Cartek claims this summer the car did 10.9s in New Jersey in 90 degree heat and my buddy since buying same has pulled consistent 11.02s, 11.03 etc. and broke his output shaft in the 4.10 rear ends two weeks ago when going after his own 10 second time slip.

Re: HP numbers out of ARE 422 LQ4?
FYI that car, Black Thunder, dynoed about 470--475rwhp over at FLP within the last couple of months so similar to my last dyno #'s at Speed Inc. My understanding is that the 500+ rhwp dyno #'s may have been a race gas tune on 100 octane.
If we don't get snow too soon maybe we'll we all the dyno tricks on my car and see what we can get, all the stuff I don't do..
-i don't do !p/s
-i dyno on slicks
-i dyno mostly on pump gas
-i have 26 degrees of timing
-i dyno thru full exhuast (dual xr1 mufflers)
We might slap an Xpipe dual bullet setup on my car with stepped headers to see what would happen.
I bet 490rwhp possible with all of that.
