GTP heads Users please come in...
I just received my 98 5.7 LS1 heads finally and have some questions...
shouldn't those heads be milled some to get to 11:1 CR !?!?!??!? mine are not just welded champers!!
I see that all the edges on the heads been cut for some reason but I dono why!! I receieved wrong heads before but they weren't like that!
I didn't get a flow chart for them either!
can someone show me some pics of their heads just to make sure.....
Thnaks

I think (someone correct me if i'm wrong) but CR can be increased by milling or welding.
I'm not absolutely sure as to why the edges are filed down. I know that the stock heads are sharp and can cut you very easily. This may be one reason. (again not too sure).
As far as a Flow sheet, I'd ask them why you didn't get one. I don't know if a flow sheet along with heads is a standard these days but I think that it should be.
Maybe someone with some experience can shine some light on this subject.

What were you told they should flow?If your chambers were welded and now look like LS6 heads they would have just been cleaned up probably 5 to 10 thou off the out side edge is just their way of doing things nothing to worry about.I would really like to see what they flow! What size cam do you have?If you have say a 570 lift cam look at the .550 lift numbers because anything after that doesn't matter.Plus what is the intake to exhaust ratio should be around 75 percent or higher.Ask if they flowed more then 1 port and for any swirl numbers this helps driveability.

The reason that he files the edges is because like Q said, you can slip and lay yourself open...What Craig does is he mills .030 off the face of the heads to achieve the 11:1 compression ratio, You might want to check with him as welding is alot more extra work and they might have sent you the wrong set of heads..You have to request the welding....

I dont know cuz I didn't get the flow chart yet!
they said the heads were milled but still I wanna know how you can tell cuz the surface looks un touched! is welding the champers only would get those heads to be 11:1 CR??
the lift is gonna be 591!
again they welded the champers......

Does the head look resurfaced if it was welded and you say it was they had to resurface them because the heat from welding would cause the head to warp!Phone and get your flow numbers. And what kind of port volume do you have.

Best thing you can do is call talk with Craig at GTP. Craig is usually very accessible and should be able to answer all your questions.
Good Luck

BaddMood the other post was deleted.. I personally like the way you were not hostile.. I understand your point, but you failed to mention all the details in the beginning.. You came out attacking with no supporting arguments. Now that I see your point of view. I can understand your position..

I don't remember sending out any Stage 3 '98 heads lately, give me some more info and I'll pull up your ticket and tell you exactly what was done and get the flow sheets to you.

I guess this topic isn't too hot today.. Still haven't heard from you, the shop number is 713-266-1320 Craig said he'd be happy to explain the numbers and how he came up with them
