Oh yea I'm loyal to Cartek Chris but I'm not a moderator from this board,If I was I'd take a more nuetral approach instead of A**kissing one shop..

Like Sled said,he DOESNT use this sleeve. As far as I know only a few people have gotten there hands on them, but I could be wrong.

Doesnt really matter Chris,Having all these shops Developing/R&Ding this stuff is good for the end user.

ARE,MTI,Cartek,TR it doesnt really matter.
Bottem line its a win/win situation for all us..

Hey you dont see my slagging other sponsors of the board do you
I am very neutral with all the sponsors. I use ARE gear and like it just like Nineball uses MTI, Jason99TA GTP/TR
Its all good, and in good fun

Has anyone checked out Golden Eagle sleeves? Same as Darton but less pricey. I can't remember their website but I am sure they have one.

I had the very first resleeved block done by ARE in the beginning of 99. The block was an o-ringed 4.100 bore block with thick liners. This first design used a wet sleeve and straight liner pressed in the bored out block. When it fired up for the first time the block cracked and water poured out the sides and top of the motor. The problem with a wet sleeve is as soon as water finds a channel out of the passages it is dead, we tried welding and that failed, the block became a coffee table after that. We could never get the wet sleeve process to not leak with a straight liner. We tried sealer but that didn't work, the leaks were too big, all it did was gum up my cooling system resulting in overheating and a replacement of the radiator.

The next design utilized the ARE designed Darton sleeve using a dry sleeve boring process, pressed in, this one performed flawlessly. This was the later part of 99.

ARE uses some pretty interesting precision boring processes on their blocks and have an extremely high success rate with these blocks. Their earlier 00 Darton sleeved blocks had a couple of problems but they also got that sorted out pretty quickly. ARE replaced the few blocks that had leaks. The secret is not the sleeves but how they put them in. Wade and crew have that one figured out in spades and now produce extremely reliable big bore motors.

I have a very high degree of confidence that this motor will last once the turbo gets starpped on. I driven this car as a daily driver with zero issues in NA form. Boost and a big bore, I can hardly wait

Warbird that was a great post.
I totally agree with your post.HOW its done is more important than who does it.This is the real difference and it looks like ARE/MTI/CARTEK/TR have done there homework.

Like Chris said,Its all good and we should all be happy that these shops are trying to find better ways to make more HP...

Would it be possible to use these sleeves in an LT1 block? If so, what would be the largest possible bore diameter?

This question is aimed to the shops performing the resleeving....How well is this resleeved aluminum block going to hold up with a Forced Induction setup (ATI). And within reason how much boost would be considered a safe and reliable amount for this block. Thanks -Mike

ARE has run 8.92@155mph with the alum resleeved block and nitrous. Over 1000 horsepower.

There are about half a dozen cars in the mid 9's with their blocks as well.

A blower will shock parts a lot less than a large shot of nitrous so to answer your question the block will handle it but as with everything it needs to be tuned properly of course.

Lingenfelters TT C5 has run mid-low nines as well.

I am sure the other shops have FI cars as well but I cant remember offhand. I think MMS has a car in the 9.7 range with a resleeved block and blower as well.

Cheers,
Chris

The LPE low 9 sec car is using a c5r block..not a resleeve

I would think the block should hold up quite well to boost. As Chris said earlier, ARE has the same block as I do and that car runs 8.92. I have run my car pretty hard in NA form all year long in heat and cold and have had zero issues with it. I would also add that that this motor has not burned one drop of oil since the day it was dropped in.

I plan on running the car as a street machine so I will limit boost on the turbo to 7-9 lbs daily. When I hit the track and drop in some 110 octane I can turn it up.

I'll keep the reports coming when I'm finally added to the boosted list

15,000 miles in the past 6 months on my ARE 436ci Resleeve motor and no problems whatsoever with the sleeves.. This thing hasn't burned a drop of coolant and has had the $#@#@ kicked out if it at quite a few roadrace lapping events and probably 30-40 runs downt he 1/4 miles, as well as quite a few VERY long road trips.

I have no regrets with going the resleeved route over the more expensive C5R block or the much heavier iron block.

onfire is right, the mid 9 C5 uses a C5R block, but we use a very similar Darton sleeve in the race car which sees insane amounts of boost regularly, and the sleeves hold up very well.
I think that warbird said it best, proper installation is the key. These sleeves will handle whatever you want to throw at them. It looks like all of the major sponsors here have the process down pat, so the only real decision to make is who's going to give you the best deal.
Now, with that said, when are some of you drag race guys going to start being loyal to me???

Ed
