I haven't done this on my LS1, but I know my brothers 3.8 in his regal doesn't really shoot around as much as I would think. My 4.3's the same. Nothing wrong, just comes up the top of the pushrod into the rocker

Im with Jim, I usually start up my GTP's 3800 with the cap off(after an oil change) and never really see oil actually shooting or puddling for that matter on the top end, i think that gets more lubed from residual, there is however a coating of oil on the rockers and all the inside, but this is the 3800 im talkin about, not an LS1

Why are you looking for oil through the fill cap? Do you have noise or something that makes you concerned?

if you got oil pressure or oil light is off, dip stick has oil on it (should fill to full mark) no ticking sound then all is fine. ticking or knocking is not good.
