I believe only the spring seats have to be milled. They mill them for proper fit of course because the spring is a larger diameter and also for getting correct spring pressure.
I think thatis correct. Hope it helps.

Open up the spring seats to fit the larger diameter springs. Unless of course you use the Rev1116's cause then you won't need to.

If the dual springs have a larger diameter than the stock springs, the place on the head where the spring rests (the spring seat) has to be increased to match the diameter of the replacement spring. On some heads/springs shims must be installed as well.
Does that help?

I believe it is usually milled out. I haven't seen a LS1 head with new seats, but on most heads the material is removed and a shim is placed at the base for the spring to rest on. Thus, a spring seat. The Comp 918 and 941 springs are a stock replacement, which means no shims or machining of the seat. Apparrently the new Rev's are stock replacement as well.
Are you trying to do it yourself? Just curious.

You need a flat surface for the spring seat and spring to sit on. You just make the seat area bigger with a seat cutter so that the springs will sit flat on the head. If you look at the head, you'll see the edges around the spring seat. Check that diameter.

One more thing, you may have to clearance the rockers when using bigger spring diameters. Why not just use the Rev1116's and use smaller/lighter retainers? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />
