Default Best cam for stock heads

Hey all, I'm new here so bear with me. I am in search of the best cam for my stock heads car. I have stock manifolds now and may go with some shorties because long tubes are not really an option at this time. I just need to know what cam is the best since I would like just a slight lope, and basically just a mild cam in general.
Oh yea the car is a M6, and I have no tuning, just a lid and !FRA & vortex muffler. Thanks

The Hot Cam has a pronounced lope, but otherwise is not a bad choice. It's also a good value.
Another bargain combo is an LS6 cam & springs --- it will idle better, but you won't pick up as much power.

Comp Cams makes several mild grinds that would work for you. With an M6, you can be a bit more aggressive than an A4, so either he 216/220 or 218/224 grind, on a 114 LSA, would work well. The lift is around .525", perfect for stock heads, and the extra exhaust duration is good for stock headers or shorties. You should have no emissions problems, but might need some A/F tweaking.

Remember that when flow stalls you can use more cam duration to flow more air

Thanks for the feedback. Sounds like maybe the comp cams 216/220 may be the one for me. I am assuming that even with a mild cam and a low mileage motor (15k) that I should upgrade the valve springs? Again, I appreciate the responses.

Yes. Always upgrade the springs .

I would go with a 224/224 112 Thunder racing cam. I gained 36rwh and 38 rwh torque with mine. Stock heads and stock exhaust manifolds are on the car.

Wow, there are so many decisions to be made on different cams. How did the TR 224/224 112lsa cam idle on the stock heads car? Is .561 too much lift for a stock motor? I could easily be persuaded to go a little larger on a cam, but I have no intentions of ever upgrading the heads in the near future. Anyways, thanks again for any suggestions.

Spazeack-
I'm very curious about how your cam performs because I just might do the same thing. I won't have enough for LT's for a while, but if I could get the cam, then I could have power and sound. I was leaning to a Hotcam, but feel I would want to change it later when I eventually got headers (in like a year or two). What other mods have been done to your car, besides your sig? Do you have stock programming? I also have an M6, so mine should perform similar to yours. How is the driveability and use of accesories like A/C? Mine is my only car, so I can't sacrifice reliability. Thanks for your help.

I went with the MTI C1 cam with my stock heads. With FLPs,no cats,LS6 intake I gained 50+hp and 40 TQ.

Okay one of you guys sent me an e-mail and i sent one back to you. i actualyl gained ( looked up my dyno sheets tonight) it was like 38.2 rwhp and 23.6 rwtq. I did have the car's programing editted with LS1 edit. The car was also tuned in on the dyno. The only mods i have on the car are the cam with the comp 916 springs and the titiaum retainers. Plus a ported throttle body and a SLP air lid. My car is a 2001 so it has the LS6 intake on it. My exhaust is completly stock WS6. I do have a set of Mac headers for the car but they are not on it yet. My car is my daily driver so drivibity was a huge concern for me as well. My car idles perfect did not have to drill the TB or anythign they did raise my idle with the edit to 800 rpms. I have no problmes with it surging or stalling etc. IT pulls realy nice now and i wind it up to 6500 when i race it. i gained power all across the rpm band. If you have a 6spd then i woudl defeintly go with teh 112 lsa. If i had an auto i would have gone with the 114 lsa. My car dynoed a best of 327.5 rwhp and 339.5 rwtq now the first dyno was done last march with only about 4000 miles on the car and i had the cam in by 6000 miles on the od.

Thanks for the info there Spazeack. I haven't had access to a computer here for a few days. With the 224/224 112 did you have to have the tuning to get it to perform well? The reason I ask is that this next spring when I get back from deployment I don't think they have many performance oriented shops up here in Maine. I'm definately not wanting to get something too mild though, that would probobly not be worth it for me
.
Those seem like pretty good numbers that BadbadZ put up although I'm not familiar with the C1 cam. Thanks again.

Spazeack-
Is it really necessary to buy the titanium retainers on my setup? (check sig)
