Default X1 cam users inside please...

Ok, I need to know how your P/V clearance is with milled heads. I am going 5.3, and milling them .030. Do you guys know if this will give me safe valve clearance? If not, how about milling the heads .015? I am growing tired of my TR224 cam, and need something with a little more grunt to go with the new heads. Thanks guys...

Call MTI and see how much play you have with the amount of milling you plan on doing.. just to be safe...

I have spoke with Jayson @ MTI about this. He told me they have set up cars with this cam and heads milled .030 with 2.055/1.57 valves, and have no issues. As long as you have good spring pressure, you should be fine.

I just got the S2 heads your talking about. You need double springs and all. The X1 is one bad mother! I don`t know how to put my dyno sheets on here, but I`m going to E-mail you mine to let you see how it looks. Let me know how you like!! I have A4, Vig 3200,12-bolt with 3.73 gear so I loose alittle in the drive-train and loose alittle RWTQ with the converter locked. But I`m very Happy. My timing is set at 23 degrees for the safety on spray! E-mail me your thoughts!

I love mine. Drivability is good, it doesnt "search" for an idle except on cold starts and once the tach goes over 3 grand its like having nitrous all the time! Only draw back that bugs me every now and then is the surge. I get some funny looks from people sometimes when driving through parking lots at real low speed from the car jumping forward and then slowing back down. they think I cant drive.......if they only knew .

I have the Stage 2 LS6 heads that were milled .30 and if I remember right I have the 2.08/1.60 valves with no problems on the double springs.

If money is not an issue go with the LS6 stage 2 heads. You get a bit more out of them over the LS1 heads. Some people will argue the dollar per HP on the LS6 heads isnt worth it but if money isnt an issue I would go for them....wait, I did go for them

NataSS- Thanks man, yeah I keep getting the "they're not worth it for the money" replies, but I want the BEST head I can get. Appreciate the advice man. BTW, got any track times with your setup, or are you strictly a road racer.

The car is pretty much an open road car now. I just put the 3:40 gears in the Moser 9 inch, so the gears arent really condusive to good track times. by the time the cam and heads swap was finished all of the tracks in Washington were closed. I have been told the car has the HP to run mid to low 11's if it would hook. I'll take it out in spring and hope for some high 11 slips. By then the 14pt cage will be in the car with a number of other things that will add some weight to the car.

I will tell you that if you go with the S2 LS6 heads and X1 cam that while you have the front end of the motor off, throw in a good ported pump. I did a few other things (not power mods but survivability) while I had mine apart. But when its done it will be a whole new monster.

The driveability is excellent for how big it is...

I do surge out every now and then, usually in parking lots when I'm trying to make quick manuvers like coming out in reverse, then going into drive, sometimes it will stumble out...not often though...

It also sounds mean as hell..

Did somebody just say driveability? I am about to run an X1 on a 109 LSA in my new motor, gonna be a lopin/buckin sumbitch at idle and low speeds

I will tell you this! I don`t have any surge problems at all. Jayson put alittle more idle in mine and she is perfect. I ran her again last night. The X1 is bad! I pull at 130 like I`m at 60. You would not believe the uper power of this cam! I will tell you this, Josh at MTI has one of the fastest cars around. I talk to him about head flows and this is what I got. Just because a head flows more doesn`t mean it`s going to make more power. You want your heads to match your set-up. My S2 heads flowed 290 at 600 lift. Matches my bottom perfect. You can over flow your set-up. To much isn`t good. And I will say this until the end. Dyno Kings don`t always make Track Kings!!! People always want to have the highest Dyno numbers. That doesn`t mean squat when you get your doors blow off! I believe the LS6 heads get you about 15-25 more RWHP for your money. I spent that on a TNT Wet kit and got 135 more RWHP. Now thats RWHP for your money Good Luck! Did you get my E-mail, let me know.

Dave, yeah I got your email. Thanks. Looks like you're very happy with that setup. Looks like I'll be dropping more cash into the car now

The X1 really is a good cam. But once it goes over 3 grand it like pointing a guided missle if you get traction. With my combo the thing wants to bury the needle every time I stick the throttle. My big concern is hanging the RPM's around inbetween 5500-6500 for an extended period of time.
