I went to my local Autozone, and they had the German Castrol in stock......but they only had 6 quarts. Anyway, I was looking at the bottles, and they have two different ones.....Here they are:



I know the one on the left is the right one...but what about the one on the right??

Here is a close up of the one on the left, which we know is German Castrol...



And here is a c lose up of the one on the right, which I am in question about.....But it does say made in Germany!!!


Any ideas, or input?? I am not going to put this in if it isn't the actual stuff!

Do both UPC item numbers match? we can only see half of it on the right bottle.

 

Yes both UPC's match.....but as I remember, even the American made crap was the same UPC.....

Yeah most likely, I know alot of companies where i used to work in retail did the same thing. Every once and awhile the would switch up the packaging a little to keep things looking "fresh" or "new".

The batch number is on the bottom, check that.

 

the european version is the new kind of GC its gold in color, the other one is the older version green stuff, same protection diffrent color.

 

I found some of this "new" stuff a couple of days ago at autozone and called Castrol to see if it was the same. I gave them the barcode on the back(same for each bottle) and they told me it was the same oil so I picked up about six quarts. But when I poured it in I noticed it was a noticeable different green color so I was wondering about that-is it the same oil just different color from a dye or something?

 

The green is older. The newer batches are gold in color. The "legend" about this oil is all based on the green but from what i have read they are indentical aside from color. check out bobistheoilguy.com and you will find all your answers

 

damn that is some THIN oil... i cant imagine using this in the summer time in hot weather..

The German castrol is one of the best oils you can buy for a ls1. I used to not believe untill I started recearching the oil a bit. This stuff is like the holy grail.

 

thats nice... but that was mobile one... and i dont see anywhere where they mention GC 0w-30 for comparison..

i see a lot of "could be" and "possibly"... not "IS" and "IS NOT"... unless i missed it somewhere?

 

remember the number before the "w" is only the viscocity at 32*F. The second number is the viscocity at operating temp. In this case, the 30 weight is actually on the thicker end of the spectrum.

 

I've heard this was great oil. I'm just scared to change.

Yes. Hundreds, if not thousands of oil analysis results prove it to be superior. Less wear metals, better additive package, etc. Check out BITOG for exhaustive reading on GC.

 

so on an almost stock 02 ws6 what should I use? 0-33 GC or 5-30 GC? And If I dont have GC around here what should I use and what weight? The coldest it gets here is like 30 degress TOPS, and hottest is 108 TOPS!. If you have a for sure answer go ahead and pm me thanks!

 

GC means German Castrol. GC only comes in 0w30. the 5w30 is made in the US and is not the same stuff.

Yes, for sure, GC is a good oil to use, no matter if you live in alaska or arizona. Either way, youre engine oil will heat up to around 200* F, it dosnt matter what the outside temp is. The 0w rating only matters when its below freezing, so you can just mentally tune out the Xw part of all oils if it makes it easier for you.
