Default notching cylinder walls?

i'm looking into the new heads, intake manifold, and other stuff package from SLP. now from what i understand, L92 heads do not fit on LS1s with a stock bore, they require at least 4.000 because of valve clearance issues. somebody told me, a machinist, that it is possible to make a cutout at the top of the bore so that the valves will clear. has anybody done this or know if this cane be done? if so is there a writeup somewhere around here that describes it, maybe even pictures? i searched a bit and came up with nothing.

Thanks,
Wayne

I'm no expert or anthing but that just sounds completely retarded!

If your stuck on getting L92 heads I'm positive I remember reading about small bore L92's coming out soon.

It would require removing atleast .050 from the side on an 15* taper. Not something I would want to do. And even then, those valves will shroud like no other.

Several manufacturers do this. Ford has been doing it on their 3.0L Vulcan pushrod engines for years to fit the canted valve heads.

Pontiac also did this with some 350 blocks to clear large valves. The 68 350 HO I had in my old T/A had them.

Wayne,

I just checked the L92 I have here for flow testing. Good idea on notching but the sleeve isn't thick enough. You'd end up grinding through the sleeve before you had enough clearance for the intake valve.

There is talk about GM coming out with a head that will work on the smaller bores of the LS1 LS6 blocks.

Steve

If it can be done, whats the point? The valves will be shrouded so badly, it will negate the benefit of a larger valve. That 2.160" valve is 55% of a 3.900" bore, thats too big.

When I had my heads rebuilt on my 69 vette(427) I don't remember seeing any relief's in the block for the valve's.

i abandoned that idea, .050 of a lip over the tops of the bore wouldn't help anyway. i'll probably do up the bottom end and get a decent cam and save up for heads. at least i'll know i won't have to worry about the bottom end.,

Thanks for all the help,
Wayne
