Thanks, its been a long painful ouch. I got a message earlier from the guy who had the short block I was planning on buying that he sold it yesterday. I'm just going to take the money I was going to spend on that and buy the tools to put together what I have.

^ I've actually bought most of everything for this whole car in the for sale section. I just got a $1548 check in the mail. My old company tried to screw me out of my unemployment benefits and I beat them in the appeal. I'm still waiting on my tax return too, but those two are going to get the majority of this car done.

Thanks, it shouldn't be too much longer. I have everything planned out and I only need about another $1500 after the end of May.
I've managed to get a few more random parts. My heads, valve springs, and valves should be on their way to me from TEA rather soon. I'd really like to thank Brian Tooley and Mike at Total Engine Airflow for helping me out with the heads and some other things.
With having the chambers in my heads being in the 71cc range versus the 68cc size I was told my current pistons were not going to work (Thanks again Mike). I would have to mill the heads around .063 which wasn't going to happen. I ended up buying a set of Diamond -1.8cc relief pistons to use instead of my -8cc dish Wisecos. They also came with rings so I may be able to save a little money if I decide to use them.

The only thing I'm not too happy about is that the pistons are a 1.125 CH instead of my Wiseco's 1.1155 CH. I am probably going to have to end up ordering a custom head gasket to keep my quench distance from being too tight.
I'm not quite sure if I am going to use the rings that came with them or not though.
Top ring = 336 040350 0575 155 = Moly Duct
2nd ring = 126 040356 0580 170 = Cast Comp
Oil Ring = 040350 1180 145
I've been doing a lot of reading about ring material lately and I'm still on the fence. I plan on putting as much nitrous through this engine as it will possibly take. With that in mind with something as important as ring selection I'd not like to make an error.
My original plan was to run a set of Hellfire hardened ductile ring set with a napier second ring. Now, I am reconcidering as I already have a set of rings. I am more concerned with the material of the top ring and the design of the second in regards to my application. I've read a few mixed reviews and there is a rather scarce amount of material on here about this important topic. Thoughts?
I also picked up a set of perimeter valve cover spacers.

I am probably going to save these for the engine I am building for my 93, but I'm not sure yet. Things may change once again.
I am also in the process of making a thread that covers what ever you could possibly need to assemble an LS engine. I'll post a link to that in here once I get it finished.

I got one of my heads in today. For some odd reason there was only one of them on my front porch when I got home. The box with the head on it said that it was item 1 of 3... One of the boxes should be my other head and the third is my spring kit, valves, and flow sheet. I am going to be patient and wait until tomorrow to see if it comes in. I've been having a few shipping issues recently so who knows. Maybe the shipping companies just suck *** around this time of year.
I was pleasantly suprised with what I got. For being a budget head these look really nice. I would like to thank Katech for the Heads and the guys at TEA for doing the work I wanted to them. I am still going to wait to pass 100% judgement on them until my other boxes and flow sheet get here. It should be interesting to see what my budget heads can churn out on this engine.
Onto the pictures of what I did get today:
Chambers:

2.04 Intake Valve:

Intake Runner:

1.55 Exhaust Valve:

Exhaust Runner:

I ordered a GENIII Kent Moore J tool kit this morning. It is shipping from Canada, but I got a good price on it. I am guessing I am going to have to wait a while for that to come in. I also finished the tool thread I was talking about. Here's a link to that:
https://ls1tech.com/forums/tools-fab...s-details.html
Any help in regards to this would be greatly appreciated as this is the next step in the process of getting this thing put together. The nice thing will be that once I get this engine in my Formula I have my trashed engine that I can put in my 93 to mock everything up with.
I am still on the fence about my ring selection at this point too. I have a set, but I am not exactly sure if they are what I want to use. Thoughts?

Much like I was thinking was going to happen I received my other two boxes in the mail today. One box was my 2.04 intake valves and .660 lift spring set. While the other box was my second head. I'm still a little confused why they came on two seperate days. I guess the UPS guy was feeling a little lazy today as he moved a whole bunch of things around (trash cans / rugs) instead of carrying them up our steps like they did yesterday. At least they got here.
Spring set and 2.04 intake valves.

I also got my flow sheet in with the heads. For the amount of money I have in these heads, valves, valve springs, work, and shipping charges ($1010) I am pretty happy. I am not quite sure which of the benches TEA flowed them on.
Lift / Intake / Exhaust
.100 / 67.0 / 60.8
.200 / 140.8 / 125.8
.300 / 211.9 / 177.1
.400 / 260.3 / 223.3
.500 / 282.9 / 252.9
.550 / 285.3 / 262.3
.600 / 288.3 / 268.8
The heads begin to start dying off right around .550, but up until then the mid lift numbers are really strong. I knew before hand that the CNC job was aimed at more of a stock cube build, but for the price they are hard to argue with. I also have the benefit of having an 806 casting and not having to find new valve covers.
I am probably going to order a valve spring micrometer and a pushrod length check here soon so I can put these heads together.
- I got one reply in the tool thread. Any more would be awesome.
- Rings... Any thoughts?

Thanks, I should be calling them tomorrow to get the rest of the details. I'll shoot them to you and update what I posted above.
23 months at this point, so it is getting unfortunately close to two years.
You would be correct. I am still collecting parts for it. At first I was trying to build something crazy and slowly gathering parts. Then, I started to realize that I just want to get this thing running under its own power. As I was in the process of gathering more relevant parts I lost my job of 2 years and 9 months.
Losing my job and not working from November 7th through January 27th really did a number on me financially. I had to sell a ton of the extra parts I had been saving for my builds in order to pay my bills. A prime example would be the set of All Pro heads I had. I am still rather bitter at my previous employer, but I've had my redemption with them...
Now, having a steady source of income I've been able to save quite a bit of money and collect only parts that I need. That was part of the problem before. I would buy random parts for each of my cars and just have a huge pile of parts with nothing to show for it except for a bunch of boxes of parts. Now, I'm focused on getting this running and it should be relatively soon. After the end of this month I'll only need roughly $1500 to have everything. That is everything including the tools, gaskets, fluids, etc....
I actually received my K member in the mail today from BMR. I bought one of their standard tubular K members to put in this car so I can use the turbo one I bought a long time ago along with the trashed engine in this car now and put it in my 93 for mock up purposes.

I am still slowly chugging along on getting this fixed. I finally went down to my friend's shop to work on my 93, 95, and Formula. I got a little bit of work done on each one and a lot of things completed that I had been putting off.
I finally got my rotating assembly down there. Those parts are off to the machine shop to be checked out and have the block final honed to the piston specifications. I am pretty happy that is finally getting worked on. I forgot to tell him about the 1/2 head studs thing, but I am planning on going down there some time next week and I'll get it squared away.
I've also been slowly gathering parts for both this and my 93. I've found a few good deals recently on parts so I have been stocking up. I need to move all of this stuff into my garage.

My laptop with all of my pictures on it crashed the other day and my internet was out so it's been kind of a pain in the *** updating everything. I have been trying to find my windows CD, but having issues. The internet is working, but I'm using my friend's laptop to type everything out and temporarily store my pictures on until I can get one of my computers fixed.
I've had this for about two months, but never posted the pictures for it because of computer issues. I received that Kent Moore LS1 J tool kit I was talking about in the mail. It took forever to get here, but it did so I am grateful:

I also finally decided on the intake setup I am going to be running. I also found one along with a few other parts as a package deal for a really good price on here so I picked it up. I bought a Super Vic, Edelbrock fuel rails, and an Edelbrock 90mm throttle body.

With this intake I plan on using an Accell 4150 throttle body. It is priced pretty well and flows 1550cfm. I don't have it, but this is what it looks like:

The only thing that threw me off on this intake was I expected it to be like the Vic Jr and have provisions for intake manifold gaskets machined into the manifold, but it doesn't.

It threw me off even more because the guy I bought it from included a new set of GM intake manifold gaskets. I had to sift through the directions they give you and they use a specific fel pro gasket.
I am going to use the 90mm throttle body on the temporary engine that I am putting together for my 93. I have a ton of spare parts lying around so I am going to put together a nice little spare engine to get it running.
Yesterday, I took this intake manifold with me to see how well it would fit in the car. I knew it was going to take some trimming and it was right along the lines of what I thought it was going to be. Now, I know my car is taken apart and looks like ***. It has been sitting for 25 months and I know.

This is with it just sitting on the heads. Nothing is holding it down.

I thought there was quite a bit of room until I went to measure it....

Towards the front there is as much space as you see.
The problem is that the cowling has a little kick down as it goes further backwards and there in lies the problem.

Here there is only about 1.25-1.5ish inches of space. It is going to take some trimming to get it to fit.
I bought a couple parts on here the other day that I expect to be here either tomorrow or some time early next week. I know I keep changing my mind as I find good deals and selling things, but this is my final setup. I bought a set of AFR 205cc heads, a Canton LS1 oil pan, lines, and fittings for the filter relocation setup.
I still need to decide on what I want to with the cam. I have those jesel solid lifters and a set of AFR 8000 solid roller valve springs. I am thinking about having the heads cut for the larger springs, selling the new ones that are on there, and buying a set of adjustable rockers. On the other hand I have a couple sets of new .650ish lift spring kits and a set of yella terra rockers. I kind of need to make up my mind on whether I want to spend the money on that or not though.
Once I get the heads and decide on the cam setup that is pretty much it and the long block is going together. I still need quite a few things like headers, a clutch, master, slave, fuel pumps, throttle body, etc.... , BUT I'M FINALLY GETTING THERE. I am going to go back down there on one of my days off next week and mess with all three cars again. I still have a lot of things to do.

It shouldn't be too bad as long as you didn't break the block. Everything else can be replaced or machined. At least it's a good opportunity to build the engine. I understand that you're on a budget, but it may be worth it to spend a few extra bucks and get it running stronger. If not, you can probably get everything off the Parts For Sale section of the forum. I hope you didn't crack the headers. That would be expensive. If it's all crankshaft, connecting rods, and pistons, then it's not that bad.

new pistons/rods all round alone would cost more than headers... besides I don't think his headers took a hit here

^ They didn't and they were stock manifolds any ways. I have about 8 sets of them available and I still wouldn't consider using them.
I got my Canton Oil Pan in the mail on Monday. It looks good and comes with a filter relocation setup. I am not quite sure where I am going to mount it though.

The flange on it doesn't seem 100% true either. I think it got bent in shipping. Hopefully, it will seal up well. That's kind of one of my major fears with putting this all together. I want to do it right and make sure that I am not going to be constantly having to mess with leaks or other issues. Especially, after 2+ years of messing with it.
I am currently having an issue with recieving the AFR 205 heads I paid for. That's all I'm going to say about it right now. Hopefully, it will be resolved soon.

Thanks, I've just been trying to post the progress as I go along. I am now on my 4th set of heads and 2nd set of pistons for this engine, but this is the final setup.
I got my heads in the mail today. I had to do some major reconnaisance work on finding them. The tracking number through USPS said that they showed up Friday at 10am, but I never got them. The guy I bought them from told me that he shipped them and I received the oil pan he sent me on Monday.
I had to go to the post office yesterday and spend a lot of time making phone calls to figure this out. I ended up walking out of there with a lot of contrasting information and the only certainty was that they didn't deliver the heads to my house at 10am on the 24th. Sure enough this morning my neighbor who is our mail man comes by with two large boxes saying, "I think these are what you've been looking for."
It turns out of course to be my heads. One of the packages was almost ripped apart and the deck on one of the heads took a pretty good sized shot, but I know it can just be filed down and fixed.
AFR 205s

Slightly carboned up exhaust ports:

Intake Port Picture:

Comp Cams valve springs.

I need to figure out exactly what springs these are. I just sent the seller a PM asking him. The specs on the heads say around a 1.75 installed height, 125 lbs closed, and 265 open pressure. They are a dual spring with a dampener.
Apparently someone also took a TIG welder to the decks of the heads and closed up some of the coolant ports. I am just hoping they put them through a rehardening process afterwards. The work looks pretty good though:

I still need to figure out if I want to put the big springs on them and run a solid roller setup or just run them as is. The 1/2 inch head studs are a certain though. I need to take the heads down with me next time I go to my friend's shop and have them drilled.

I still need to figure out if I want to put the big springs on them and run a solid roller setup or just run them as is. The 1/2 inch head studs are a certain though. I need to take the heads down with me next time I go to my friend's shop and have them drilled.
