Default How to install lifters?

I'm upgrading the lifters in my '00 WS6 to LS7 lifters and I want to make sure I know what I'm doing when they get here.

All you have to do is soak them in oil overnight and then drop them in the place of the originals right? There's no adjustments to make?

Thanks!

Yeah, its pretty self evident once you get in there. Just pop out the lifter retainer, remove the lifters, plug new lifters into the retainers and reinsert into the block. dont forget to loctite the retainer bolt. The oiling hole does not matter which way it faces, so the lifters ont have to be oriented one way or the other. Also, you can get some new LS2 lifter retainers for very cheap for added piece of mind.

1- VERY IMPORTANT- Clean the lifters in mineral spirit before you presoak
2- Only presoak for 2>3 hours before install in a very lightweight oil (not thick), like Dyno oil.

I prefer the oil holes facing galley (personal preference)

You mean "wipe the outside of the lifters with a mineral spirit soaked rag/towel" correct? so people don't misunderstand and soak their lifters in some kind of solvent. right?

THat's what I was planning, just some regular old white bottle Castrol Dino oil.

Yes but I actually take a tooth brush and dip in solvent, clean thoroughly in the cup and especialy roller area.
Then dry with a compressed air and soak directly after that.

Lifter Aquarium?

Yeah, I would clean them and resoak for 2 hours prior to install. The coating they use to protect them is not really oil soluble, that is why they recommend to clean before soaking.

Just curious about only presoaking the lifters for an hour or two. Does it hurt anything to do it longer?

No way. Two hours is just a safe minimum. Also consider how long it's going to take to assemble the rest of the engine, they're going to be draining the whole time. I don't see how it could hurt to have left them in there longer.

It doesnt hurt, but you have to clean them BEFORE soaking.

I would say WD-40 would also work good with a toothbrush.
