Default How do you like your ASA Cam?

How many People are currently using the ASA cam? How do you like the power and torque curve? What other parts did you add that made the cam really "shine"? How did you get the cam tuned? How long did it take?

I love my ASA i just got it tuned the other day. Only made 356 RWHP and 354 RWTQ i was pissed @ first but then i got looking around and I had a LS1 intake and stock TB, and flowmaster muffler, them 3 items are tieing up about 35 RWHP. So now i got true dual and this damn cam sounds AWESOME. dont regret. I can make close to 400 RWHP and never have to worry about valvesprings or anything. I highly recommend this cam. And my tuner had it tuned in a few hours

LOVE IT!!! I too still have with the crappy ls1 intake for awhile, I think the ls6 will really wake it up even more. I tuned the car myself with HPTuners.

I hear people say this cam is tough to get to idle on a A4. Was it tough for you? Did you have to raise the idle?

It wasn't hard, just took some time since I have a 98 and can't utilize all the cool time saving tuning features that the 99+ cars get. My idle is at 850rpm.

From all I read about the cam you really need a FREE FLOWING intake and exhaust to get good results. 1.8 rockers and 7.425 pushrods help along with some ported heads. I can't wait till I can get it I'm looking for some where around 400 horse with a flat torque curve and on top of that I LOVE the sound it makes.

Yeah some free flowing exhaust and intake helps this cam alot. im hoping for 390 RWHP next trip to dyno. With new exhaust ported throttle body and LS6 intake.

Keep us informed of what she pulls on the dyno. Good luck with your goals. I think for what I've read you should be able to pull that and maybe even more so we'll see how it goes.

how is drivability with this cam-what kind of cam surge stock tune or tuned do you guys get and at what rpms? I love cruising at 1000 rpm, but imagine with this size cam you probably have to keep the engine up around 1500 to keep it from surging.
Anything you guys hate about it?
Anything that suprised you about the cam?

I love mine! The sound with my TD's is awesome. I get compliments on it almost everyday. I had my car tuned @ RevXtreme and took about 3 1/2 hrs. The only cam surge I get is @ 1500 rpms. Other than that its great. I can cruise 60mph in 6th no problem. Mods, #'s, and link to dyno sheet are in my sig.

How much did they charge to tune the cam? What type of surging are you getting does it idle up or down when it surges?

It's not a bad camshaft for a 402 with L92 top-end, but there are better cams for it if you're wanting big power (it's a kind of small camshaft for stock cubes, much less big cubes like these).

I'll be trying to talk my boss into a cam swap soon for a comparison...I think with the tune and a different cam 550rwhp isn't out of reason here.

Matt I know that its a tiny/baby/small cam I'm not looking for a MASSIVE cam just something that hhas a good flat torque curve cause it will be a DD and something that sounds good.

Any idea on how much power and torque the setup should be around. 402 with L92/L76 setup asa cam TD, and a tune. I would figure I should expect something along the lines of like 450-470 HP and 430-450 torque. Any guess's from the smarter ppl?

It doesnt do either, it just bucks a little @ exactly 1500rpm in a low gear, not bad though. Car drives really nice. It was $500 for a street tune and dyno tune. I'm hoping to do another round of mods soon, and I will be taking it back to them for sure.
