I dont know about the vettes, but i dont think the f-bodys have threads in the pickup. I think the bolt just goes threw the pick-up and threads into the oil-pump. I cant remember from when i did my cam swap. So forgive me if im wrong.

are there threads in the pick-up? I cant tell from the pic. I know when i did my cam, i thought i stripped the threads in the pick-up. But i ended up just getting a new bolt from the dealership and it threaded back in perfectly to my new oil pump.

Heli-Coils are generally available at your local hardware store...

That looks like the threads in the oil pump. I can't tell if it's been removed in that pic, but you should remove the oil pump if your going to helicoil it (probably your best bet if the threads are stripped). Otherwise, it'll be hell getting to and almost impossible to keep the shavings out of the oil pan.

Remove the oil pump per ls1howto. Once it's out you can get a heli coil kit for whatever size bolt that is. The process is to drill out the old threads with the specified drill bit on the helicoil kit, tap in new threads for the heli coil, and then put the new threads in. Here's a little info on a helicoil.
