Check the cam swap link in my sig.
Things that jump to mind: Brand new unused crank bolt, longer crank bolt or threated rod deal for pulley installation, and spare valve stem locks.

whats the wooden dowel trick? I own the compressed air fitting (bought it awhile ago when i had to change a broken valvespring on old pickup), so ill just do compressed air. I've heard with that and the crane tool spring swap is pretty easy. I just need to figure out the best/safest way to do the cam without dropping a lifter. I really dont want to pull the heads. I've read like every cam swap thread/tech write up i can find, but any tips from people that have done them (preferably more than once) would be real helpful!

I got two 5/16" wooden dowels cut to ~22" each. I took my dremel with sanding barrell and ground one side to a gradual point on each. Then I trimmed a bit off the top, picture the letter "D" rotated 90* to the right, that's what the profile of the rod looked like. Then I lubed the **** out of it and threw it in to hold up the lifters. Worked like a charm, and cost me $.72 after tax Crane tool is a Godsend, you won't be sorry for using it.

thanks for advice, but im only going for a 375-400ish daily driver car. It has 60k on it and the stock fuel pump is still perfectly within factory spec pressure, and volume wise.
lastcall...do you have any pics, or could you pm some more details on the wooden dowels? I guess im not picturing it, but it sounds neat. I guess im just not seeing how only 2 dowels can hold up 16 lifters? haha

ok and did you sand the dowel into that shape (the D shape) for the entire length of the rod? And then pardon my newbiness to cam swappage, but how did you support the lifters with the two rods?

When you take the cam retainer plate off, it's very obvious how I supported the lifters The writeup on ls1howto.com is all I used, and some helpful PMs from a few members. The dowels slide into the holes and hold the lifters up. WHERE do they support the lifter from? **** if I know, and it don't pay to ask All I know is that it works, and it's easy. I sanded that almost till the end. Don't make it too thin! The last thing you want is them breaking off in the block, then you're in a world of ****.
