BigEller,

Congrats on getting the HOSS of a 6.0 running. i am doing a similar project for my 98 trans am 6 speed

I am going to run:
lq4 block, diamond .030 pistons and ring setup, f body crank, ported 241 casting heads, hooker LT's, and dual 3" aerochambers, ls6 intake, have not decided on cam yet but probably the g5x3.

I beleive this will make enough power for a while.

New Dyno numbers with the addition of stock valve size LS6 heads.. A 40hp gain is not to shabby..
  • 408.6hp 407.6tq unlocked SAE
  • 425hp 385.1 tq locked SAE
  • 426.6hp 425.5tq unlocked actual
  • 441.3hp 400.0tq locked actual

I got a deal on an escalade motor for $1000. It was out of an interior fire. It's going to the machine shop and will be fully checked and cleaned. I also would like to point out that there seems to be some confusion spurred from a past article in GM high tech performance. It stated the 317 head castings are only found on LQ4 or low compression 6.0s. I myself was concerned when I got this motor and it had 317 castings.. I thought I may have been screwed over with a low compression 6.0 from a salvage yard. We pulled the heads and alas flat top pistons.. So I believe at some point they quit making the 035 casting and put 317s on all 6.0s with the only difference as mentioned above being the pistons, dished vs. flat. I'm only going to be out a small amount of money for the smoke and grime to be cleaned off the engine and probably bearings and rings for insurance when it's apart. I'm trading some parts to a friend to help me do the swap since I'm in the learning mode. That all being said, I'll have a motor that will hang with a modded LS1 in NA form and will hold a 100-150 shot all day long if I choose to go that route.. Not much money involved here and potentially alot of benefit for me.. I don't have a job right now.. That's why this is being done as cheaply as possible. If it doesn't work out, I'll be able to make more money than I paid by parting out the engine dig? Thanks for the input so far.. Keep it coming..
I would throw on a set of fully ported 6L heads and trade your heads in as cores.

Go for around 11:1 comp and run a big *** cam/FAST intake. Should make 470RWHP fairly easily on motor.

If you are planning to spray I would go with an forged iron shortblock. Cast pistons suck
