Default TR230/224 and PRC LS6 CNC heads

230/224 .575/.563 111 LSA

PRC LS6 CNC Ported Heads

this cam caught my eye, because with bolt ons and an LS6 intake, stock heads on a 99 it made 410 RWHP and 389 RWTQ. i was hoping with a good tune i should be looking at around 460/430 at the wheels, and a mid 11sec pass. what do you all think? i was also throwing around the idea of getting a FAST 90/NW90 setup, and hoping for another 15 hp/tq? any personal thoughts on this one? its not going to be DD'ed but it will be driven to shows and i want it to be streetable to a point.

Look in dyno section for graphs and results.
A reverse split with tight LSA on stock heads yields very good results.

Sure, I can be reached anytime on daytonfbody. I'm usually around all weekend and later in the day on weekdays.

See my thread above. My car's heads are stock, never been removed. The only change to them was the valve springs to support the tr230/224 cam.

I was gonna go with the 5.3's over the LS6's myself based on someone's recommendation but now I don't recall who told me that and why!

probably the same reason i was too. smaller combustion chamber and still CNC ported, for about the same price. TEA has them. however, i have heard that with any cam over 228 duration, flycutting is almost required and you would be stupid if you didnt, could be different with different cams tho. and ive heard that anything at 230 or above requires flycutting. thats why i started looking at the PRC LS6's milled .015. this will net about a 10.8-11.0 CR (depending on head gasket thickness) and still pass without flycutting. please correct me if im wrong, just gathered information.

I believe I asked thunder and they said no problem with the 5.3's and the TR230. Maybe someone from TR can chime in and answer this?

I have this cam and love it! I am thinking about going with PRC (Texas Speed) 5.3L stage 2 heads.

I checked with TR and they said verify P to V. I know someone told me it was fine but yeah, it should probably be checked to be safe.

i loved my tr230 when i was cam only , drove great , ran great and produced good times at the track . great idle sound and pulled hard from 2500rpm .

one suggestion i will make though is to get gears with it to make the driveability even better

Our 5.3l heads, Street LS6, and 2.5 LS6 will all clear fine with the 230/224 camshaft. We've sold cylinder heads for those camshafts many times with some great results!

I may be off base here, but since the 230/224 seems to be intended for cam-only cars, maybe you should look into some other cams to go with the ported heads you get. I'm sure you will make great power with that setup, but there may be a more optimized cam for your heads' flow characteristics.
