Bought The COMP "R" lifters today now heres the?'s
My new setup includes Yella terra shaft 1.7 rockers (really 1.72) Custom comp cam (228/236 571.602 111LSA) which the base-circle is .28 smaller than stock, (I THINK) SII 5.3 heads milled only .05 for straight-ness, and the stock 7.4 length pushrods. I've heard that the COMP "R" lifters, like the have .20 less preload on them, but im already running a "TO" short pushrod already correct, so why put less preload on the lifter? Im confusing myself now, how about you people

I haven't sat down to do the math on your combo. But it sounds like you have. If your pushrods are already too short, then you already have your answer, which is proper length.
Remeber your pushrods are part of a complete package from cam to valve. Each piece will either compliment the other or be the cause of potential problems. Keep the geometry correct in your valve train, and all will be good. Goof it all up, and you are asking for lots of very bad issues.

Re: Bought The COMP
I'm thinking about the same rollers. DId you buy them from TR?
Mark from Raging Motor Sports told me the terra yella rockers come with simms and detailed instructions for getting the pre-load corrrect....
...not sure about whether you need a test valve spring or not...

Re: Bought The COMP
I bought them from mark, along with my heads, and all the other stuff I bought, but my question is: lets say im .20 short on my pushrods, they only make pushrods longer by .50 increments, so im keeping my 7.4 pushrods, buy if I shim my rockers, Im going to be even more shorter, right? Im thinking I should just be able to throw everything in, and go. I thing I'll be fine, but what do you all think?

Re: Bought The COMP
I think you will find all the answers to valve train geometry in archived posts.
It is my own personal opinion that you should have bought an assembled engine, and then you would not have this list of mechanical worries.
BTW, your numbers are off by an order of magnitude.
good luck
