Default What Loctite did you use on your cam install?

Looking to do my cam install Sunday, but I'm not sure as to which Loctite to use. The writeup on LS1howto.com said to use Red Medium Strength Loctite, but I haven't found that anywhere, only high strength, with a hold rating of like 200 ft/lbs. I've read that others have used Blue Serviceable. Which one do you guys recommend?

I used the blue medium strength on most places. On the head studs I will use the ARP thread sealer, I just haven't got that far yet on my build.

red high. You can break em loose if you need to eventually. At least you wont have to worry about bolts backing out that way.

Dumbass

J/K man, although it would be good insurance to use it, you dont want a cam bolt backing out on you when some loctite could save you the headache and knuckle busting of having to tear back into the front cover.

Umm yeah. I know about the writeup. I can't find Red Medium at Autozone or Napa. Couple of other places to try, but I'm leaning towards Red High, even though the poll currently is tied at opposite ends with Med Blue and High Red.

I'd be curious to know how many times losing a cam bolt has actually happened. GM specifically does not call for Loctite on these particular bolts. The manual says if it did, they would make a special note about it.

I didn't use any either. GM manual didn't call for it,so I guess time will tell. If I could do it over I would use some kind of loctite, though. Just 4 peace of mind.

I would recommend Loctite 246. It's a high temperature, medium strength oil tolerant thread locker.

The high strength thread lockers are way over kill for these small fasteners, but for a high stength, Loctite 266 would be my choice. It's a high temperature, high strength oil tolerant thread locker.

I used the medium strength blue, but only on the oil pump, rocker and the pulley bolts. I did however tighten everything to specs.
