comp 212/218-.558/.563-115 vs 216/220
I've been trying to pick a cam lately. I've almost ruled out the LS6 cam because it really doesn't make much more power at low rpms over stock. I'm looking for a good street cam that will work with stock heads and make some nice torque numbers.
I've been looking at the comp cams grinds...
212/218 .522/.529 114
216/220 .525/.532 114
212/218-.558/.563 115
I haven't seen much on the last cam, I'd like to hear some feed back on the last cam, it's looking like a nice sleeper cam.
Here is what I want to do...I want to use my stock heads, the cam must work well with stock heads. I have a set of 02 LS6 springs so I would like the cam to work with these springs. I may or may not add some mid length headers later on, like a Mac or Bassani, but for right now I'm using my '02 exhaust manifolds.
I want the car to idle as close to stock as possible, a little lope is acceptable but the car should have perfect street manners as the car is driven daily. Any opinions?

Your last cam choice is the LS6 street re-placement cam. Pulls to 6700.
However, for low-midrange in town driving, I will go for the first choice, good idle, no computer tuning and your LS6 springs will work.

if u want the best idle, get the last one, on the 115lsa... the 1st one will make good torque, and peak around 5800, the 216/220 will work well also, but be a little 'rougher', and peak around 6000... Cal's cam on the 112lsa, will idle TOO rough for u...

I'm pretty sure I had better stay at 114lsa or better for idle quality.
The 212/218-.558/.563 115 cam looks good, but I really think it would need better springs than my LS6 springs. I'm pretty sure this cam wouldn't need much tuning either.

I have the same requirements as you in regards to a cam since mine is a daily driver and I wanted ZERO drivability problems. The cam I got is a Comp Cam 216/220 .571/.581 114, this cam idles like stock, has a BABY lope to it, and pulls really hard, peaks @ 6400. I'm running Comp 918's and Hardened pushrods as well.
Dyno'd 390RWHP & 382 RWTQ, on stock heads, all boltons, LS1 Edit for A/F, RPM.
It ran a 12.6 & 115MPH on pepboy tires 2.2 60'.
