Default Ouch revved to 7 grand twice.....problems?

Just recently I missed an agressuve (racing situation) downshift and revved to 7 grand, then 2 days later I miss 2nd real bad (at redline) and the rpms went to 7,100. Will I know 100% if I mess anything up in my motor? Liek can a slightly bent pushrod not be felt? Please let me knmow thanks in advance.

if using stock hi mileage valvetrain, possibly tapped piston with valve at worst,
or bent pushrods

Do you have your rev limiter disabled?

Might want to set that sucker closer to 6500 or so...

my buddy did the same thing a few days back. we have a nice ticking tapping noise. we have our fingers cross that it is just a bent push rod on his 80,000 mile engine. that or he broke a valve spring.

I dont really think theres any damage you'd most likely know by now..

it was only 7k and for a split second I dont think its enough to really do anything. Anythings possible though.

If you have weird noises after revving at 7k!! Then maybe something got broken, but If you do not hear a thing, I think also that nothing is going to happen if you went for a second into the 7k rpm region.

Just be careful if your ride is not equiped with the proper valvetraing setup.

It sounds like he is saying that he mechanicaly over revved it by downshifting, rev limiter can't help there

Geez I've must have bent all my pushrods and broke a bunch of springs from my car shifting at 6900 with my limiter at 7100...oh noes.

If it it's not ticking or making any new noises you should be pretty ok.

you can tell if you have a broken valve spring with a vaccum gauge. just hook to manifold vac source, if the needle moves rapidly 2 or 3 hg probably a spring. Though more than likely you have some bent pushrods. Happended to me.

^ yeah.. I was in a road race a couple months ago, running 3k plus RPM for about two hours. I pegged it once and the tires broke loose and I kissed the rev limiter. I've got a slight ticking now, prolly a bent pushrod. Same as you. The stockers can hold fine, but when you over rev it, it stresses them pretty good. (She sits in the garage during the week. The ticking isn't bad, so I'm not really worried abotu it, cam swap comming soon anyway.)

It's easy enough to take the valve covers off and take the PR's out one at a time and check. Roll them on the table or a flat surface. -Kind of like checking a pool cue.

I shifted my stock shortblock 98 at 7000 for 500+ passes with stock pushrods. If that makes you feel any better. I also downshifted on accident when the car was almost new and over-revved. I did find a eyebrow on one of the pistons when I took it apart, but I never had any problems with it. I was only running Comp 981 NOT 918 valvesprings with only about 100lbs on the seat and around 275 open.
