You'll want to re-install it. It's added insurance against bolt slippage, plus it does a good job of locating the cam sprocket onto the cam snout.

I would guess its some sort of press, but if it keeps falling out, hammering it in wont really help much. Might have to knurl the I/D of the pin hold in teh cam. But I would definitely use the pin for locating purposes.

Take it to a machine shop, most of them will have the hardened dowels and will press them in. I did that on one of my previous cams.

Not sure without seeing it. Did the dowel break or just fall out? It shouldn't just slide in and out.

I was in the same situation too. I took mine to a machine
shop and they pressed one on for $10 and a six pack.

Why are you tearing down the motor? Didn't you just put that Trex in there? Hard to say if it is damaged or not. If the pin was in when you installed it and just fell out when you set the cam sprocket aside I would wonder if a vibration from a bad spot in the cam made it pop out. I have pulled them out of stock cams before and it is a PITA with a pair of vice grips even.

Well. I guess you could get the cam doctored. That will tell you lots right there. Send it to thunder. I don't know of anywhere in the metroplex that has one.

I would have the cam checked out. You don't know if it got nicked or warped. Something might have happened to it. I wouldn't want some little part to ruin my brand new motor. You'd feel really dumb if you made two huge mistakes in a row that both cost you a motor.
