Default thoughts on 228R but on a 110LSA

How do you guys think this cam would be in comparison to the 112LSA version. Would it be harder to tune, would it make more power down low, but still have strong mid-upper RPM power? How would it sound comared to 110LSA. the cam makes 4 degrees of overlap on a 112 and 8 degrees of overlap on a 110. Cam specs are 228/228 .588/.588. Thanks

i'm not an expert by any means, but..

the 110lsa cam makes less power down low, and through the midrange, put better peak,

and should be a little more difficult to tune, but nothing to worry about,

my opinion.. take the 112lsa one, fits this cam better,

i think tsp designed it well on the 112lsa. I got mine on the 112 and im gonna say it should be a very good performing cam

I apologize, slight thread hijack. Do you have any more pics of your car with those wheels on them? I am thinking of the same cam as you though, different lsa though.

110 LSA will bring the powerband lower. For example, the same cam might hit peak horsepower at 6600 on a 114 but hit peak horsepower at 6300 on a 110.

The 110 LSA will have MORE power down low. That is the fun with LSA's. You could have great power down low at the expense of high peak horsepower. Also, the smaller the LSA will bump up the compression ratio. Example: 234/242 114 LSA lined dot to dot with LS6 Heads and .040 Cometic head gaskets will yield a SCR of 7.71. Same cam with LS6 Heads and .040 Cometic Head gaskets on a 110 LSA with a ICL or 106 (+4 degreed), will yield a SCR of 8.29.

The smaller the LSA, the more overlap it will create giving the car a "lopier" sound. The smaller LSA doesn't always mean that it will be harder to tune as most people think.

The 228R on a 110 lsa will only have 8 degrees of overlap so it shouldn't be much more difficult to tune.

Ok, I see no other mods that would change compression so I plugged in these numbers for you and came up with

228/228 110 +0 = 7.78 DCR
228/228 110 +2 = 7.91 DCR
228/228 110 +4 = 8.03 DCR

Since it sounds like you are on the fence about degreeing, +4 would mean higher DCR numbers and return would bump up lower-end torque.

Good Luck!

I would go 110+0 on stock heads, or 110-1 if you had heads, but thats just what I would do if I was limited to the 228 lobe.

I have the 228R on a 114. On a 110, you'll have more low end.
