It depends, I assume that you have a LT1 instead of an LS1. Also the earlier Ls1's had smaller cams in them. I own a 00 Z28, all stock except K&N FIPK. The cam in it is duration @ .050 intake 198 exhaust 209. Valve lift is .0500 on both intake and exhaust. On a 119.5 Lobe centerline. It's sounds good at idle. It's just a little choppy. Did you know there are 2 versions of the LS6 cam. Which one are you talking about? The 01, 385 horse power one or the 02-04, 405 horsepower cam. The later being a good bit bigger.

LS6 will make good power, but it sounds like you need a cam that has about -15° of valve overlap. It will sound closer to stock that way. Have a custom cam ground. Call most of the sponsors, they can assist in the process if not do it for you.

why are you so set with stock like sound, you will be leaving allot of power on the table you can still go fairly mild and have jsut barely noticable lope with more power than the LS6 cam will give you. Off topic, but if you got the money you could do this and heads and be laughing with gobs of power and stock like sound and driveabilty. It will jsut perform allot better

How about this cam spec from the mind of engineermike: 230/230 121-2. Should sound just like stock and get you all sorts of power. Oh, by the way, you'll have to spin it to 8,000rpm. No big problem, right.

By the way the LS7 cam is 210/230 120+4. It's got a little more lope than a stock LS1 though.

if you want it to sound stock y dont you just leave it stock? if you want more power then get what you pay for instead of just getting a portion of it.

Yep your definitely going to have to have a wide LSA so you dont have much overlap. If you get an LS6 cam you will not even be able to tell that there is a cam in there it will sound like a vette pretty much.

So i guess to try and get the cam to sound stock but yet still get a nice performer. You have to have a high exhaust lift on the cam and a small intake and then a wide LSA? I believe thats how you get the stock sound although im no prredator or patrickG so im not to inclined on how to get a particular sound and what LSA you need and all that good stuff.

That's what I was going to say. You are probably looking for something like a 220 0r 222 cam on a 114 or larger lsa.

Try something with a 10* overlap if you are interested in more power with virtually no effect on low-end driveability. For a 40* intake closing angle (peak HP at 6000RPM) and a 50* exhaust opening at .050 (stock manifolds) try 216/224 XE lobe~.563 lift 115 +4.

For manifolds, shorten that to 40*/46*, 216/220 XE lobe ~563 114 +4. Both of these have a Dynamic Compression of a little less than 8.

I have a 218/224 115 cam in my vert.It idles like stock (600 RPM) and makes plenty of power. The specs are in my sig. If stock sounding and driving is what you want this cam will do the trick.
