i doubt it, any gain would be negligible and the cost to have it machined wouldn't even be close to worth it

you can get that with the right combo of parts and tune from a stock bottom end LS1. I'm gonna have to say no to either.

but with added inches i can make it easier, and have a more streetable motor. with potential for more power in the future.

well it sounds like you need to leave it a 402 and go the l92/76 route unless you find a better deal on a 408 rotating assembly.

450 from a 346ci and 450 from a 402/408ci are alot different.

i think i would go with the bigger cubes

OK, is the block new or used? The reason to bore .030 is to give you a new perfectly round cylinder to install your new pistons and rings. I am not sure if GM uses tq plates when they hone the cast iron blocks or not, if not I would suggest getting it bored and honed for that reason alone. If they do and it has a fresh bore, then leave it the standard bore if you can get aftermarket pistons in standard bore size. As for the money, getting a block bored and honed is not that much of an expense, the trick will be finding a shop that takes pride in their work and has a TQ plate for the new LSX blocks. I would not expect the bore and hone with plate and fine finish to be over $200.00-$250.00.

And no on the LS7 crank... just get an aftermarket one. My understanding is the LS7 cranks will not work with a conventional oil pump.

Won't make ten cents worth of difference. Any engine builder is gonna bore the block anyway. Pistons will cost the same as well. Either should cost the same.
