btw I am using AC DELCO PF44 filter
the 20W50 oil is BB2000
I am thinking about going with either mobil 1 20W40 which is the only one we got in here, or Visco5000 which is 5W40
I am not sure which one to go with!!! or stay with BB2000

Wouldn't use 20W50 in a GEN III, why can't you just use 5W30 as manufacture states? The best off the shelf oil available is Mobil 1 0w-40. Thats great you make tons of oil pressure but that is called "some is good more is better" syndrome.

With that additional pressure also comes slower oil flow, higher oil temps, lower HP and lower MPG. Go no higher than 10w40 in these engines unless your clearances are much bigger than stock.

ok I used 5w40 and it reads like 30. is that ok??
the crank was polished a bit would that be a cause for lower pressure??
TIA....

If it drops to 25 to 27 lbs of oil pressure when you are at idle when it is hot, that is just fine. No problem. As long as the pressure goes back up when you are on the throttle.

As the man said, unneccesarily heavier oil slows your car down and makes the motor work harder.

I try to get 5w40.
Remember too... synthetic at 5w40 usually has the protextion characteristics of 50 weight dyno oil, but is not as heavy.

I agree and, in my case, my main and rod clearances are on the high end of the scale - thus I need the additional viscosity.

Right now I am running GTX dino oil but at the next change (2,000 miles on 427) I will change to synthetic - Question Which synthetic? I am leaning toward Amsoil or Redline - Patman, suggestions and advice please.

Either Redline or Amsoil will work extremely well for you, but I lean towards Redline as they seem to be more geared for hard driving, as their antiwear additive package is better (mainly more moly in it)

Thanks, I'll buy Redline.
