Default 500 HP on 346. How can i get there???

My set up includes, an x3 cam, thunder racing pushrods, double springs, jet hot longtubes, and stock heads. My motor is in need of a rebuild and i'm trying to figure out what direction i can go in to get 500 flywheel hp out of the 346, if at allposible. Will an 11:1 bump in compresion and head work do the trick on my current setup? I'm kinda new to the LS1 world.

i'm lookin' to get 450 RWHP outta my C5's stock displacement i'm going with a Texas speed Header setup, CNC ported LS6 heads, TSP Cam, LS6 intake(already have) Double Roller timing set, Doug Rippie Motorsports dyno tune. Should cost about $4k and i am looking to hit between 435-450 RWHP. i could go a MUCH more aggressive cam then what i'm doing and even a set of TrickFlow heads and probably push 500+ but i want it to be streetable for road trips and stuff still so i'm not going too aggressive. There is a couple guys on www.myLS1.com that are pushing over 600-900+ hp outta their LSX's. Not sure they are both 346c.i.'s but check it out and let 'em know who sent ya their wayThey are always happy to get new members and they can help out as well. ~Cole~

500 flywheel is easy with a low 22x cam, good heads and intake.
You will want a fast90/90 setup and good small port heads for all round package.
You will get more with a more aggressive cam and larger heads but your low end torque will suffer.

i can't remember the specs on an x3 but a cam in the 23x range with a good set of heads like the afr 205 or tfs 215 with a fast 90/90 and all the usual boltons with 11:0 or higher compression depending on how big your cam is should get you 450 rw or more through an m6.or if you want all the hp out of it have the 90/90 ported (good idea to do in the first place)

Flywheel HP isnt an issue here. Cam and decent heads will do that.

It's possible, I was over at SynergyMotorsports.net in Neward, CA on there Dyno days.. I saw a C6 push the dyno to 734 rwhp!.. .. it was streetable !
I am not sure of what internals mod there was, but from an Blown LS2..! and the usual bolt ons, but it was very impressive.

this is a fast 90mm intake (142-54002)

the other 90 refers to the throttle body that youll need to match it

500fwhp easy, h/c can get you 450rwhp through an M6 fairly easy with a fast 90/90. **** cam only can get close to 500fwhp

I love this Forum. Thanks for the input gents. So far its lookin like i''m just going to buy a forged rotating assem. and have the heads ported and milled. Ive never been a fan on juice, but the car had a pretty nice set up when i baught it, so i may as well spray it. In light of my rod bearing spinning, do yall have any suggestions on what i should buy for a bottom end? should i try to get teh compression from the heads or the pistons?

Heads - Use a forged flattop and a head with a 59cc combustion chamber, along with .040 thick gaskets. Most forgings have valve relief's already, but you'll still want to check for proper clearance.

If you get the compression right, you can make 500 flywheel hp without the Fast 90/90. Also, if 91 octane is the best available in your area, consider a little less compression (60 cc chambers) to avoid the death rattle (detonation).

Good Luck!

Manual or auto? With a M6, you would only need about 425 rwhp to equate to 500 crank at 15% drivetrain loss. Its possible to get really close with cam+bolt ons only, but you have to pick the right cam and have a great tunner.

Check out Thunder Racing, i beleive they have gotten an ls1 around 410 rwhp with only cam and boltons. Reverse split is the way to go with stock heads... Predator can give more insight to exact specs, guys a damn guru when it comes to cams

The X3 is a 234/242 .60X/.610 lift...

Thats the cam I run with a set of Dart 205's and a 90/90 set up. I am a A4 with a 4K stall, I dynoed 507 on the dyno this spring on the 100 shot with an unlocked verter and the A/F ratio at 10.1 (which has been tuned out but have not been on teh dyno since), so there is still some pony's left with my set up.

If you want to make 500 RWHP, just add some nice heads, 90/90 set up (~450rwhp right there) and a 100 shot. With you being an M6, Ill bet you will be in the ~550 range.
