Default Block prep

Just got my block and parts back from the machine shop. Is it safe to hit the block with a hose and some soap?

Just the whole block, cylinder walls, lifter bores, oil passages. Then I will run a brush through the lifter bores and oil gallerys with some mineral spirits. Then before final assembly wipe down the cylinders with some acrylic laquer.

take it to the local carwash and powerwash that thing crystal clean. then blow all the water out of it, and re oil metal surfaces so they don't rust.

make sure you remove all the water/soap, by compressed air?

spray the block down with WD40 after dry.

Actually, it's not...I have a can of it, 100% virgin acrylic laquer thinner is what MANY engine builders use to clean down cylinder walls.

The acrylic laquer (paint). That you're going to put on your cylinders
Most people I know call it lacquer thinner.

Yeah I've heard people call it lacquer as well. They're wrong. It's lacquer thinner.

Why not? I'd paint mine to match my car...it should make it much faster. Plus, it gives the rings something fun to do while they are flopping around in there.

Immediately after you wash it down, I'd hit up all the machined surfaces with auto trans fluid or wd40 to prevent rust
