We have been extremely fortunate to have Jay from Meziere at the shop this week. He flew down Monday afternoon for us to conduct the very first real world installation and on-car testing of their new LS1 electric street waterpump. The testing consists of two phases:
Phase I - product installation and street testing
Phase II - before and after dyno runs versus the stock water pump
Since my car is without a motor, we gave Justin (JSears8) a call to borrow his car for some testing. He gladly accepted.
We were going to get started Monday, but the pump was delayed in shipping. Luckily, it arrived this morning and we got started with the install.
Here are some pics of the pump on the car:

The pump was a prototype and the only one in existence at this point. So, it wasn't anodized like they will be for production pieces. Also, it may look pretty rough in some parts as this was the first time it was placed on a car and we did find some spots on the pump that needed to be clearanced slightly. Jay took notes of all this and we are going to have a new revised pump here Thursday to install on another car. If all goes well with the fitment of the new pump, they will go into production shortly after.![Happy](https://ls1tech.com/forums/images/smilies/LS1Tech/gr_stretch.gif)
As some of you may know, Meziere already has a race pump out for the LS1. We have used this in the past with excellent results. The downside to the race setup is that there isn't any provisions for the heater hoses, no thermostat is employed, and there is no belt tensioner - pretty much intended for a race only setup. This is where the new street pump comes into play.
It accepts the factory heater hoses, thermostat housing, and tensioner. The LS1 thermostat housing is retained as mententioned, but the thermostat is removed since a small block chevy style thermostat is placed on the outlet side of the pump, not the inlet side as with the stock pump. Here is a pic showing the thermo. removed from the factory housing:

Justin drove his car around this afternoon and the temps never got over 180 in traffic or on the highway, even with the 90+ degree summer weather in Louisiana. Justin can chime in here if he likes.
Since Phase I is complete, we will be installing the revised pump Thursday on an '02 Z28 and getting some dyno numbers from Justin's car as well.
Now to answer a few questions that I know will be coming:
- Price is yet to be determined. It most likely will be in the upper $500 range, but this is not yet set in stone.
- If all goes well with the pump Thursday, they should be in production "very soon" according to Jay.
- Since Thunder Racing will be receiving the very first pumps produced, we are now accepting pre-orders for these. Just give one of the salesmen a call to be added to the list.
I'll also weigh a stock pump vs. the Meziere for those interested in any possible weight savings.
I know I'll be getting one. lol These things are sweet.![Grin](https://ls1tech.com/forums/images/smilies/LS1Tech/gr_grin.gif)

Jason how long do you think it will last? And would you have to buy a whole new piece or just get a new motor if thats even possible? and with this their is no need for an underdrive pully correct? once I find all that out im down.

Looks good! I've been running a Meziere on my LS1 for almost a year now with good results. I was able to buy a special tensioner from Meziere that lets me run my alt/power steering etc. I bet you'll see at least .1th at the track!

I'm very happy with the Mez on my LT1 car (got about 8k miles / 2 1/2 years on it - and it'd have more if my motor wasn't broken
).
I too look forward to hearing the results.

Is this a realistic mod for a daliy driver or am I going to have to worry about the pump failing. Camaroholic mentioned he had 8k on his but I will rack up 8k in less than a year. What is the average life span of an electric water pump?
