Default now this is a failed lifter

had a loud tick in my engine, figured lifter

looks like my camshaft ate up the lifter. some of the other lobes and lifters had some damage on them.

its a futral F13 camshaft with 25k on it. does anybody know the batch number of the bad f13s a couple years ago?

What does the rest of the valvetrain look like going to that lifter?

holy ****. I just got sick to my stomach. My car has been making a "tapping" or "knocking" noise for a while. Everyone keeps telling me its just valvetrain noise but i dont think thats the case. I can hear the valvetrain noise and then i hear this on top of it.

Here is the picture of your spring you found from your lifter i'm assuming

and here is one of the 2 springs i found on my drain plug a while back

Does anyone else see the scary close resemblance? Thoughts?

If you look closely..yours is the exact same piece just a little more mangled. Look closely at it and you can see the same design. That sucks man.

Holy **** that looks horrid. To break apart the actual roller and do that kind of damage to the cam, something literally grenaded.

the cam apparently has metallurgical issues or something and slowly wore on the lifter till the roller broke or siezed. at least that is my theory.

lifter spun in the tray and stuck sideways. most likely from lofting too far off the cam. replace the lifter tray. how high were you spinning the motor? i just got through helping jim mueller rebuild his motor because of this issue. he was spinning 7200 rpms on a single spring. i still have the block, cam, and lifter at my shop. he caught it before it got that bad. the roller wheel was almost worn to the pin, so it didn't spill it's needle bearings everywhere.

i would think that if it wasn't for the wear on the other lobes of the cam, and the wear on the rollers of other lifters. and there was a bad batch of f13s around when i got mine, but i was thinking mine was newer than the bad batch. goin to call Futral tomorrow about it. spun lifter is a possibility tho. i will inspect the lifter trey tomorrow.

i was only spinning it to around 6500 at most, and not that often. my dual springs had some mileage on them, but mostly highway mileage.

Dude!! I had a lifter look just like that...did the same thing. everyone agreed it was valvetrain. and then one day.... DAMN it started makin some incredible noise... i went with a 6.0L crap... mine happened back in may and it took me all summer to get parts that I had prepaid for... made a 4 hour road trip with my bat and a bad attitude......

but with mine I had some other issues. I bought my car with an aftermarket oil pump and the o-ring was installed wrong. which starved my lifters. thats what I came up with.

Good Luck ..

That lifter and the cam look awfully familiar. Had the same thing happen to my F13 and several of my lifters. I contacted Futral and they replaced it free of charge. Great people to deal with.
