Shavings in oil
I just got the car yesterday 2001 SS with a newly installed 77K shortblock from an 01 ws6. I was on the highway going 75-80mph and the check gauges light came on and I looked down to see 0 oil pressure. Immedietly pulled over and got it towed home. I checked the oil, no leakes or anything but it almost looks like silver glitter on the dipstick, I am almost 100% the oil pump is dead but would the motor be ok without pulling it? Also if it is dead would yall recomend claiming it on insurence and using the money to get a forged 346 or nonforged 383?
looking for help quick!

Did you blow your old motor is why you got a used shortblock? If so insurance won't pay for that. As far as the metal shavings i'd be afraid that all those shavings are all over the motor and you may make some bearings go bad.

The shop that instaled it has no liability unless the problem was caused by something they did wrong while installing it. BUT...If the used engine came from a salvage yard it should have a warranty for at least 30 days.
Find out where they got the motor and if it was gaurented.

You didnt spin a bearing the engine had previous damage. You got ripped unless you were thrashing the ever loving crap out of it, only you know that, you need to make the person who you bought it from pay for it.
As far as fixing it it isn't worht it. A forged 347 will be cheaper than a 383.
Start calling vendors on the right. LME has a good reputation, built mine and a few people's I know, Weber has some great deals as well as a bunch of others. Your looking at anywhere from 2790-3500 for a forged 347 sb. Add about 800-1100- if you go 383, the cost of the crank. Then add in gaskets, new timing set, new oil pump, and a few other odds and ends like lifters and lifter trays.

You need to speak with the seller and get some coin back from him. Small claims court might be in your future if he doesnt want to cooperate. He deals with the place where he got the motor from not you. 2- 3k is reasonable for him to refund you. You can have a sb built for 3500 from LME cheaper from other vendors.
There isnt a court in the world that will let the sale stand unless the sales slip says with blown engine on it. It is assumed it will last longer than 500 miles. I dont care how big AS IS is printed. This isnt criminal law and you dont need to prove guilt. You just need to show that is was not supposed to be a junk and was bought as such with the intent of having a good motor. Most people think they can wrap a turn in paper and sell it as a golden egg and get away with it if they say "as is". Thats not how it works. You can take them to small claims court get a few bucks back from them. Especialy within 3 days of a sale. There are laws that protect buyers especialy with big purchases.
