Default Best way to get Powerbond Pulley started on crank?

Ok guys-

I am trying to install my PB pulley and cannot get it on far enough to let the stock crank bolt get a grip of any threads..

How are you guys doing this?

Thanks

Jeff

DO NOT use the stock bolt. Get a longer bolt or get a tool.

Aren't the stock bolts only supposed to be used once??

I did it like this with my stock balancer:

heated in oven
tapped it on crank
used longer bolt to start it
used old crank bolt to seat it down
took out old bolt and torqued the new bolt as tight as I could

Don't use a bolt at all, you risk the threads. Every week there is someone on this forum or another that I frequent that has totally buggered their crank for no reason using a bolt to get the damper on. Make a tool. Its cheap and doesn't risk your threads in the crank snout. I made this one for less than $20 and have used it several times.

Also, if you read the Powerbond instructions you should ensure the correct interference fit, which is around 0.0009" - 0.0014" if I remember correctly. The numbers are in the instructions. Bottom line, the hub ID is less than the crank OD, but the number of 1/10,000ths of interference is critical for it to correctly damp the crankshaft harmonics.

I just received my C5 Powerbond pulley last week (well, actually the second pulley, after some Fedex shipping damage). Check with Neweraperformance.com if you need to order another pulley. They have a pretty good deal on them. Sorry I can't take that C5 pulley off your hands. It shouldn't be too hard to sell on the forum though.
