Help me pick a cam & make a parts list
Hey guys its finally time for me to start deciding on what cam to get. I want to get around 390-400 hp with good low end torque. I would also like to have good street manners. But i do not want a sleeper cam, it has to have some lope. I'm thinking the high 220's to low 230's duration.
(I'm also considering getting a custom cam)
Now i know i need to buy a cam package. I also need a ls2 timing set and an ls6 ported oil pump. Now my question is do i need lifters and rockers?
My car is high mileage but runs strong. By the time i do a cam swap i will have about 120k miles.
BTW, I have bolt ons and a 100 shot of nitrous.
What do you guys think?

I think the general rule of thumb is if you have over 100k on the clock then you need to replace the lifters. The rockers I think could wait if you can't afford them right away.
I don't think you can go wrong with a custom grind on the cam. I just had Patrick spec. me one. Tell him what your after and he will hook you up.

something like the 228/232 on a 110 or so should get you where you want to be power wise but sometimes it is hard to get a really good tune so it might be harder to tune than say if you got it on a 112 or 114.the t2 232/234 on a 112 would be a decent cam also. ^ agree, hit up pat g.
i would get new lifters also with that many miles.

Vengence has some nice cams in the 22X/230X range the VRx3 or VRX4 are REALLY nice, they have bigger and smaller. And on cam only, supporting bolt ons and tune have made 40X rwhp.
For the milage you should still be fine on the lifters, you gotta remove the heads to do it. So try to avoid if possible. Stock rockers should be fine but has been noted to dump needle bearings into the motor. If worried you can move up to a light weight yella terra.

no i dont think that is highly necessary to buy new lifters in this case...same with the rockers. I've read many performance books on the LS1 and for his application the lifters should be fine. do you need more part reccommendations?

Yes i would like to have some more part recommendations. Will i need new injectors? I know i have the small 26 lb injectors because i have a 2000

i feel you on the injectors im suffering with ya on that one lol
umm you can get away with injectors like that but they should be ur next to-do..stat.
some tools if youre doing it yourself:
-some fuel line disconnect tool (autozone)
-3 armed pulley puller for removing the balancer (rented from autozone)
-i bought a new crank bolt from arp..they are longer and make the installation of the balancer easier cause you can just wratchet it on there.
-if you break the oil pressure sensor u'll need a new one lol..i did.
-plenty of break clean and assembly lube
Parts:
if you are re-using your heads go ahead and still get a nice set of head gaskets..i spent around a C-note on those but they are very nice...
i know you are on a budget but you may wish to somehow fanangle a way to get yourself a LS6 intake manifold if you dont have one
match your cam choice with matching valvesprings...some ppl dont like comp 918s, but a spring comparable to these are good for your application as long as you dont go too crazy on the lift.
i agree with the dude that has the orange TA above, a cam like that would be good..u may want a 112 or even 114 lsa , a 110LSA may push it..the lower the lsa the more lope

i would not spray with the cam installed untill you have the injectors installed.
im also getign ready for my cam swap, i have a 98 with 99,000 on it, im going with a 232/232 cam with xer lobes and im not changing my lifters.
i still dont know if im gonna use dual valve springs or a beehive

should be great for me, should fall off soon after peak shifting at 6500-6600
and it should get me close to 400 ar the wheels "only need 54 more"
but i dont drive the car everyday eather. it has 12* overlap that should lope prety hard i also have 3.90s to help get going as well
