After a pass last night I noticed that my oil pressure dropped down to about 25-30 at idle. I can get it to come up to about 60 if I rev it but I'm concerned about how low it is at idle. Also, the needle on the gauge jumps around a little at idle, could the sending unit be going out or should I be looking at the O ring?
This is after a TR224 install. Everything was fine after the install (2 weeks ago) until my 6th pass at the track last night. It was sitting at a little over 40 at idle before. Someone point me in the right direction please.

I have noticed that as my oil gets older, I loose pressure. Change the oil and filter before freaking out. Of course the needle jumping at idle might be the sign of a spun bearing too. Look for slivers of metal on the magnetic drain plug.

mine jumps at idle too every once in a while and has done so for quite a while and ive never noticed anything wrong or any unusual sounds from my motor, nothing on the drain plug either.

check your oil level. I bet you are down at least a quart. When racing LS1's it is critical to check the oil level after every single pass. (If you have the stock PCV) I hope nothing is damaged.
cheers and good luck!

Things are getting worse guys! My oil level is fine and the oil is only 5 days old. I'm going to try a new o ring tonight. Am I wasting my time or is this the fix? Should I go ahead and get a new pump as well? My oil pressure is really low and pumps up under load but goes back to being very low at idle. Any suggestions?
Please Help!!!

...if you are going to go through the trouble of installing a new o-ring then it makes sense to spend a few dollars and get a new pump too...
...as you know, the labor is a PITA... and the Gen 3 oiling system is ****... ...why take the chance and have to do it allover again...get the new pump...
...it is weird since if you installed the o-ring correctly and it worked producing normal pressure, the o-ring has no way to subsequently get sucked into the pump gears.,..very strange...
I suppose it could be a week pump....the gears may have worn badly maybe...

25 to 30 is fine at idle...Mine has always run 25 to 30 at idle with 10w-30 Mobil 1. As long as the pressure increses with engine speed to the 50 to 60 psi range you are fine. In my opinion you are freaking out over absolutely nothing. Did you mess with the oil pump o-ring when you did the cam install? If not, how could it possible be bad????

I changed the timing chain when I did the cam install so yes, I had to pull the pump. I should've said in the last post that the pressure dipped into the red 2 times today. At any rate, I bought a new pump and o ring and I'm in the process of buttoning it up right now. I'll let you guys know how it goes when I get it all back together. Thanks for the help.

Well, I put in a new pump and o ring and what do you know? Everything is good again. I don't understand it and I won't pretend to know why the other one failed. It looked great but it obviously wasn't. Kooky!

Can you tell us if the first o-ring was in OK. ...???
I can;t beleive the number of people having oiling issues recently ..totally amazing!!!
Someone should make an oil pump tube gasket and leave the o-ring out to see if this works...just for the hell of it, right!
If it works, we could recommend to all that they use gaskets and an o-ring any time they screw with the pump!

The original o ring looked like it was a little ovaled out if that makes any sense. The sides were a little bit flattened out but not too bad. The bolt for the pickup tube was tight as well. It didn't look like the o ring could've caused it but you never know. I couldn't see anything wrong with the oil pump either. ![Icon Confused](https://ls1tech.com/forums/images/smilies2/icon_confused.gif)
The new o ring that I got was blue not grey like the original, is this a new thing or, did they decide blue was prettier? I ask because maybe they realized the grey o rings had problems and offered something better.
