Default Stealth II cam?

I've been on the hunt for an good sleeper cam. At first I was thinking the TR224 on a 114LSA, or TSP 224R 116LSA. Then I came across the MTI stealth II cam. I've read that it rivals largers cams in power with out the loppy sound at ilde. I want my car to sound like it only has bolt-ons.

I will soon be installing some LT headers and an LS6 intake. How much power can I expect from the Stealth II cam? Are there any other cams out there that will get me more power and a stealthy idle than the stealth II cam? Let me know what you guys think!

Or custom Stealth:

224/220 .604/.581 115+2 LSA

XFI/XE-R

A slight variation of Stealth 2 with a bit earlier powerband.

I had the Stealth 2 in 2 combos and Head/Cam + bolt ons I got best of 11.2 @ 120 mph (Auto with VIG 3200)

Stealth 2 vs. CheaTR cam, which one will put down more power and how much will they put down on stock 853 casting heads and mild bolt-ons?

I put 407rwhp down with Stealth II & port 241 heads. This was done with mac mid tube headers through carsound cats. It is a sleeper cam for sure. My buddy put down 385rwhp this stock heads.

I'd be more than happy with 370rwhp.

With the right combination 400+rwhp is achievable with the stock idling Stealth II....It is THE best stock idling cam out there.

That's funny stuff. I said the EXACT same thing this summer when I swaped in my LS1 with a Stealth II and MAC mids. Now I have a set of ported Stage II 5.3 heads and merged stainless LT headers in the garage waiting to go on this winter. The Stealth II should make around 370-380rwhp without heads and a little north of 400rwhp with a full on effort. The cam runs awsome and is almost undetectable as the idle sounds stock for the most part.

Hmm.... where would one purchase such a cam?
Seems like this cam would benefit a set of CNC'd heads more than the standard Stealth II. Would a greater lift on the exhaust improve power without making it obvious it's cammed?
May go through MTI when I get my swap in.

I called both TR and MTI about the CheaTR and the Stealth2. I've narrowed down my search to these 2 cams. Now my problem is which one? They both claim about 40rwhp gain with supporting mods which I will have. Maybe I'll just flip a coin, what you guys think?

Would I be better off going with the stealth2 since I putting LT headers on?

Most likely the Stealth 2 since you will be installing the headers.

We have tested higher lift versions of the Stealth II camshaft such as what was proposed by Predator-Z and they made virtually ZERO difference in the amount and the way they made power....so why run more lift and more aggressive lobes when it makes no difference in this application??

I'll admit I don't know much about cam design, but I would think if one were running heads that had max flow at or above .600 lift that a cam with max lift at ~ .600 would make more power than a cam with .581 lift. Then again, it's only .020 of an inch

I beg to differ on that one, I have ran your Stealth 2 back in the days that Colonel (pioneer) just had it installed. I've had it in 2 different combos, 1 as cam only and one with heads. Good cam no doubt about it.

But, lately I just used a 224/222 XFI/XE-R(actualy 225/223 once ground) and it made ~ 10 rwhp more cam only, so if you tailor the combo with the right valve events it will make more power.

So you statement is incorrect.

well there can be a lot of different variables for that extra 10 hp like dynoed on a different day with different weather conditions and also it probibly was a different car and motor so MTI and predator z both have opinions and no one can be 100 percent sure unless both cams were dynoed back to back on the same day with the same car and both tuned for each cam.
