Default how much lift is too much vtpc

i have a stock bottom end and heads on my 98 camaro and i am schedualing my camshaft swap ....... how much lift can you get away with without flycutting pistons......


your opinions please.....






i have an auto with yank 3600 , slp lid , long tubes , true duals ,and ls6 intake

Hey, hows it going. Im still working on the money for that rearend. But to answer your question, if you are keeping the stock heads, then you can pretty big without worry. Im not sure the exact cutoff, but i thinks more than just lift you should woory about. Im pretty sure duration plays a big part in it. What cam are you looking to go with?

i am pretty sure it will be the new high lift F-14 from futral motorsports.....

also how much power do you guys think this will make????

Duration will give you more problems with ptv contact than lift. Max lift occurs when the piston is well down the bore, you will never have ptv contact at max lift unless you broke a timing chain or set it up wrong.

Just like 8a8mfh said, duration has a much larger impact on piston to valve clearance than lift, especially on a stock head that hasn't been milled with stock valve size.

I would suspect that you could run a cam in the low 230 duration without having issues, but I'd check with the manufacturer first.

The f14 high lift will fit fine w/ stock heads. Should be a real nice powerband also. Make sure you put a good set of dual springs too.

I just installed an F14 with 5.3 heads milled .005" and 2.02" intake valves. I still had .100"/.180" clearance.
