Exclamation Budget Heads for TR224 112 LSA

Hello all,

I have read alot of great things about this cam lately, and it sounds like exactly what I want. Now I just need to find a set of heads to maximize it's potential. Obviously budget is the key word here. I would say anything under $1600.

Can anyone suggest a good set of heads to maximize power under the curve. I've been looking at PRC LS6 2.5, would this make good power under the curve?

Also I will be running Pacesetter LT's and an LS6 intake.

Thank you for your help!!!

I think 5.3 heads will be a little better. Smaller chamber will bump compression and smaller intake runner will have more velocity. They flow about the same I think (as CNC ported). I was going with those heads until I decided to save for another month and go TEA ported TFS. I am only going to do this once so I better be happy.

I'm assuming the headers you already have. Even so, your gonna blow your budget. Just the gaskets and head bolts are gonna cost $150+, and your still gonna need injectors and a tune. Unless you pick up a used set of heads for cheap you might have to save for a while longer.

I recomend Patriot 5.3l heads.

I think he means $1600 just for the heads......

PRC does a good budget set of 5.3 heads from what I've read.

Yea, $1600 for the heads. This is not a firm budget but I really don't want to go to crazy. Can't I just have the LS6 heads milled about to bump my compression though? I'm just thinking that the cam would benefit a little more from the cam. Or do you think they are overkill for a smaller cam such as the TR224?

Thanks for your input

I agree with goin 5.3 on the heads. I absolutely love my combo. It drives like stock in traffic, sits at 11.0:1 on pump gas(milled .018") & runs hard for a 224 set-up.

If you're going to spend that much why not step up to a set of Dart heads.

I would take a look at our PRC 2.5 5.3L heads. The added compression from the smaller chamber along with a good flowing head, should make for a very strong setup. Give me a call with any questions you have. We are running some Christmas specials on all PRC heads. If you are wanting to deck the heads to increase the compression more, let me know and I'll deck them for free as well.

Does anyone have dyno #'s with that setup. I have the TR 224/224 112LSA cam and am torn on what direction I want to go with the heads. The 5.3's do sound tempting. Mods are in my sig, dyno'ed 375/375 with a REALLY flat torque curve. I don't want to lose the torque. Milling for free huh?? Man......twisting my arm HARD!

Any issues with the TR224 cam and the 5.3 2.5 heads milled for 59cc? I am guessing that there shouldn't be any PTV issues, it's not that big of a cam. Just want to make sure before I put them in.

So if I do go with the PRC 5.3 2.5's what should I get them milled to? Will I have any PTV issues running this cam? Anybody have any dyno graphs of this setup?

Thanks

I am also looking for some budget heads. How much would the TSP 5.3 heads need to milled to get a 11.2-11.4 CR?

I'm running 2003 Patriot 5.3's, 214cc intake runner, 63cc chamber. Numbers in sig. Car runs great with awesome torque!
325rwtq @ 2500rpms, 355rwtq @ 3000 rpms!! TEA 5.3's are what I would have gone with if I had not bought the Patriots.

If you get the TSP 5.3 just go with a .04 thick head gasket and that will give you 11-1 compression and i think around 8.5 or 8.6 DCR. I put down 402 rwhp with that combo through an unlocked stock converter. Oh and my stock ingjectors worked fine but there pretty close to being maxed out.
