Default Failed Sniffer with TR224 112LSA

Well my birthday is coming up, and its time for licence stickers. Anyways I got my buddy to run it at his dealership and here is what came up:

Idle Test \ Rolling Test
HC ppm 629/limit 150 \ 4/limit 60
CO% .81/limit .7 \ .06/limit .34
NO ppm 10/limit 443 \ N/A
RPM 819 \ 2022
Dilution 14.6 \ 14.7

Anyone have an idea why my car sux on the idle? Other than simply the cam/richness? Thanks for the help.

Matt

Yeah I'm sure it's that cam on a 112 LSA, but I think you can fix it. Have you done any PCM tuning since the cam install? What is your idle speed at?

Since alcohol has a very low combustion byproducts, it will make an engine run clean. The main byproduct is water vapor.

Can you guys be a little more specific as to what to use i.e. brand name, amount of it?

Have as little gas in the tank as possible-about 4 or 5 gallons. Add 4 cans of dry gas to that amount of gasoline.
Try the emissions test again. If you pass(hooray!), fill your tank immediately with gasoline! If you don't pass, fill your tank immediately with gasoline! Then try some tuning. If you have some bucks, I'd look at the tuning first. Good luck.

put your idle up at 1000 or 1050 rpm. That will help get you into the cleaner portion of the cam.

raise your idle up and add some RXP. You can get it at most autoparts stores. It comes in a little red bottle with a yellow label. I've heard it works really well at cleaning up emissions. Also, get your cats really hot, like run your car hard before you go get it tested and don't let it cool down before they check it. That should get you passed.

Thanks for the help guys. Really appreciate it. Will try uping the idle first, if that doesn't do it. Alcohol it is......

I recall raising the idle (carb) to about 1100-1200 to overcome the lope and emissions of a heavy duty cam. I held my breath while the inspector circled the car, and hoped that he wouldn't notice the extra rpm's. Finally, he said, "why is your idle so high?" I told him that THIS engine was designed that way! He didn't know any better, and let me through as my car passed emissions (just barely)!

LOL, I believe 1200 rpm is the legal limit in most areas, so as long as you aren't above that, you can tell them what ever you want!

Have you read this thread:
https://ls1tech.com/threads/showflat...o=&fpart=1

You can also use any of the alcohol they sell as a de-icing agent, usually has a name like "Heat" or something; takes care of water in the gas tank that can freeze and plug the fuel line.

...tell them you live in Canada where the air is crystal clear,,,, therefore, you believe the sniffer police should not hound performance hobbiests about a few extra hydro carbon emmissions......

...if this does not work, drop a 20 spot (preferrably USD) on the road and ask them if they dropped it?

I was driving in Nova Scotia a few years back....i pulled over on a lonely dirt road for a few winks....the RC mounties tore my car apart looking for American contraband....these dudes are mean spirted... anyway, it convinced, me, I have not been back since...!!
