Default Help me decide....MLS or graphite head gasket

O.K., I just received my Patriot LS6 style heads. I didn't realize it when I ordered them, but they came packaged with new GM head bolts and a pair of the 6 liter GM MLS head gaskets. The problem is, I just ordered a head swap gasket kit from SCDP that should have (haven't received it yet) the graphite gaskets, bolts and cam change gaskets (which I still need). My question is, which gasket should I use? Patriot recommended the graphite gaskets to raise the compression a bit, but then I'm stuck with an extra set of head bolts and the MLS gaskets. What would you all recommend? Of course, if someone needed a set of bolts and gaskets....... Thank you and Happy Holidays!

The MLS will do just fine.. I talked to Weber Racing and he recommended that i use the MLS gaskets.. I am going to use them on my boosted motor.

MLS for sure. You'll understand why if you ever have to scrape graphite gaskets off.

The graphite gasket is going to be thinner and give you that little bit more of compression. If you are looking to get every bit of compression go with the graphite. But like thorny said if you take the gasket off again you will be doing alot more clean up work.

Hmmm, I'm seeing a pattern here. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say most of you like the MLS . Thats kinda what I figured based on the searches that I did. I'm still torn though. I'd like to get that extra .2:1 on the compression, but I'm not sure it's worth it. Is the reliability that much better on the MLS as opposed to the graphite? One thing I do know is that the heads will not be coming off again, barring any catastrophic engine failure. Oh yeah, thank you for the responses and have a happy holiday!

I don't think the graphite gaskets are any less reliable than MLS. If you follow the instructions both will perform as they should. I also don't think you'd notice the .2 gain in compression, but I would consider going to a .40 MLS gasket if you're really worried about it. That would give you a very good quench and bump compression even more.

I know you plan on never taking the heads off agian, but MLS gaskets will make taking them off MUCH easier should you ever need to.

Merry Xmas all!!
