Default Billet cranks.

I have been reading the crank postings for a very long time and there do seem to be issues which aren't always being resolved. I'm in the UK and can get billet cranks machined at appx 8-12 weeks notice. I can also make a pattern for a cast item but if you do this you won't get rolled fillets. Please tell, what is the most popular stroke that people are looking for? Also, would you wish to use stock rod journal specifications? Then I can see how viable a proposition this might be.

A good stroker crank at a price much lower than the lunati would be very popular.

Im thinkin that the market for a billet crank would be even more limited than the current Lunati forged peice...

Now if you could get CASTINGS for like, say, $500 in a 4" stroke...

I suspect that more people are looking for stroker cranks for street applications ,,,,therefore, they may not need a billet unit and would prefer a nodular iron unit at a much lower cost....

...if you can mass produce a nodular iron unit for $600-$800, I'm sure mega folks would beat a path to your door....

...lots of companies now produce forged, billet cranks in the $2K range....obviously these are really strong, but for a street application, most do not need the brute strength of a forged billet unit...

I wonder if it would be possible to make a cast piece with oversized journals, then turn the journals down to the proper size and add the rolled fillets at that point.

Sure, it's a little extra work, but getting a crank turned is usually no more than $100 or so, with a little extra labor being needed to roll the fillets, but not all THAT much.

I think that the vast majority of people could get away with a setup like that since the bottom end on the LSx motors is so supportive (read: deep skirt block, 6 bolt cross-bolted mains, etc...).

Look at the cranks being offered by Lunati. Those are the popular strokes. 4.00 probably being the most popular. What can you do for pricing on a billet crank in either 4.00 or 4.125

4.00" stroke is definitely the most popular. A cast crank less than $1K would be a welcome deal and a popular item!

I agree, if you can get a crank into peoples hands for under a grand and still be able to withstand around 800hp, you would change everything said about the LS1 and how expensive it is to modify

YES!!!!! if you can get a good cast 4" or 4.125" crank for less than $1,000 I would be one of the many standing in line to buy one.

if you ever do it, let me know:
