Default Question on bare Dart 225s

I was looking at the great price for Dart 225s. Do these come with a valve job already done, so the valves just need to be installed?
Also, I see they use 11/32 valve guides instead of 8mm. Do my normal springs and retainers work on these slightly larger diameter valve stems?

Dart's use 8mm valve stems. There were some early heads that had 11/32 valve stems, but they were preproduction pieces. I don't know about the valve job.

I don't know who is right at this time. According to Scoggin-Dickey's site, they use the 11/32. Here's a portion of the screen shot (see lower portion of picture for valve info):

there heads are setup to use stock LS1 parts, and yes 8mm stem is what they use also. Check there website to verify me, if you want, and you can also see there all new PRO 1 225 full cnc head version too.

Dart released some pre-production heads to a number of vendors for evaluation before they came out. Based on the feedback from this forum, they switched to 8mm. Their original plan was to use the same valves at an SBC head. They are 8mm.

I'm currently installing a set of 225's. The heads I have were assembled from Dart and I confirmed that the valves are 8mm.

Here's a picture of a Dart 2.05 intake valve, clearly 8mm.

One exception to "all stock parts" I found on My Dart heads were the valve spring cups require a larger hole through them.

Spec sheet from Dart? Where did You get that? All I got was 2 heads, not a single piece of paper in the boxes. Could You scan it and post it, I thought there should have been something with them, even pm'd another forum member that has Dart's asking Him where to find info., He asked Me what I wanted to know?

You can download spec sheets here:

http://www.dartheads.com/products/ch...ro1-heads.html

You are correct about the valve guide diameter. The LS1 head has a .500 diameter and the Dart uses a .560 diameter.

I want to use my Crane 144833 spring kit with Dart 225's, but can't find a spring locater that will work.....

If I had a lathe , but I don't

I think I found a locator from Ferrea that will work, SL1066. I need to verify the spring ID, but it looks like it'll work.

I no longer have a lathe either but use the one at work. Let Me know if You cant find the right cups and if Your's aren't to hard for carbide cutters I would be glad to help You out of Your situation.

I would bet You a beer that Gunnar at Patriot could fix You up with the correct cups!

To the OP Yes the bare heads have the seats prepared for valve installation, the exhaust seats from dart have the sweetest finished radius I have seen!!! Just lap them in, and sorry for the...

How much lift are you working with? The Dart springs are PSI 1511's, which are excellent springs and will RPM very high. The retainer (from memory) is just over 6 grams. Very light setup.

I am looking at putting together a bare set and was wondering if the Darts use a stock length LS1 valve. Sorry for the threadjack!

Never mind. Just looked at the link to specs.

Only .585, but I like the Crane springs more. If I have to, I'll use the stock Dart valve train.

When I disassembled my Darts, the valves were stamped with a Rev part number although they are actually made by Eaton. As I remember, they were the top of the line drop forged valves according to the Rev information I found.

Prior to installing the Crane 833's, you may want to pick up some shims as well.
