Hey guys,

Just curious if I was missing anything to get my head/cam swap completed. Can you just take a look at my list and let me know. Thanks!

Chromoly Hardened Pushrods
Melling High Volume Oil Pump
TR224 Cam
LS2 Timing Chain
LS7 lifters

You didn't say what car/year/motor in your post or sig.

While it's apart it's not a bad idea to replace the lifter trays, they are pretty cheap (Ls1/LS6 version):

If you have some miles on the car I would replace the cam retainer plate because it comes with a new lifter galley gasket (this will require the new style retainer plate bolts as well). I also replaced the cam gear, the new LS2 version has some small improvements.

You should also get a new O ring for the oil pump pickup.

Digital camera. Taking pictures during disassembly helps getting hoses and wiring harnesses back exactly where they came from during reassembly. Using ziplock bags with labels so you can group different fasteners as they are removed helps when it's time to put things back together. You just grab the zip bag and all the fasteners for a particular item are right there.

Sorry,

Car is a 98 Z28 6-speed. The car has 55k on it right now. So I'm hoping the original lifter trays will be ok?

I couldn't have said it any better than this ! Using this method drastically cuts down on searching for bolts and whatnot and keeps your work area nice and neat. Two things you should get are some blue loctite for most of the engine bolts and teflon thread sealant for the waterpump bolts and for the intake rocker bolts if your heads are ported which exposes these to the intake runners.

I had a TSP catted Y. I would rethink that item IMHO. I no longer run cats but I did not like the fit of that system.

Get new lifter trays, cheap insurance and some of the ones that are marked "10" had issues.

Don't follow LS1howto to remove or install the pulley. Use a socket to press the original pulley off (not the bolt) and then make or buy a tool to press the pulley back on. Consider pinning the crank.

I put my crank pulley in the oven at 200* for about 20 minutes before putting it back on. Went on very easily and cuts down the risk of stripping crank threads.

Your going to need a new crank bolt and some threaded rod to reinstall the pulley. Or you can just tap your crank because of stripped threads like I had to, your choice.

I went to Ace hardware and bought a 1" longer bolt with the same thread as the crank bolt...it brought the pully on slicker than sex. Once I got it started about an inch I switched to the new crank bolt at was done!! It was a $5 bolt, but worth every penny.

Thanks for all the helpful hints! Are the lifter trays really that necessary? I was hoping to knock this out this coming weekend, but I doubt I can get the parts here that soon. Anyone know where I can buy them? I know SDPC has them but I don't know if I can 2nd day them. Anyone know?

Thanks
