Default #1 rod bolts hitting oil pan

We fired up my new 408 and had a knock so we thought it might have been the windage tray and dropped the k-member back out to pull the pan to find out that it is the #1 rod bolt hitting the oil pan. Everyone I have talked to said that they have never heard of this happening have any of yall ever heard if this?

My 408 rod bolts hit the windage tray when I cranked it by hand. I put some shims under the tray and the problem was solved. No I haven't heard about the bolts hitting the pan. Tray yes pan no.

He is right. You have to shim the tray for the extra stroke from the crank

I had the same problem as you the #1 rod bolt hitting the oil pan, I work in a fab shop so ,I cut a square opening around the aria that the rod bolt was hitting and tig weld a patch on the out side of the pan to clear my 4.100" crank.

That is pretty much what we did we welded the bottom of the pan for added support and grinded the inside of the pan for added clearance

Yep, does it on all of em. F-body pans anyways. All ya gotta do is notch the pan slightly, and knock the corner of the rod bolt off with a grinder. Dont worry guys, it doesnt hurt the integrity of the bolt. you're only knocking off the corner of it.

What rods and bolts are you running? That's the first time I've heard of the 4" stroke crank causing that.

Wow. That's interesting, I had to clearance the Oil Deflector by 1/8" in my 408 so the rod bolts wouldn't hit. But hitting the pan itself, damn what kind of setup is that? Those rods must be longer that my legs!

And going that far down, wouldn't the oil pickup tube be in the way of the rod throw anyway?
