Damn balancer!!!
So I started my H/C install, thanks to school and work I only have about an hour a day to work on it Everything was going smooth, cooling system, intake, heads cam off with no issues. Started to pull the balancer off, the car is manual so I put it in gear and slapped a breaker bar on it with a 3ft ext. Started from the lowest point I could get the wrench to and started to pull, damn near go 180 deg and bolt doesn't break loose. The drive train just has too much give, tried it in multiple gears with the e-brake set and no go. I think my only option is to try a impact gun but I don't have air, I'm going to give a buddy a call and see if he can bring his portable air compressor over tomorrow. Anybody have any ideas? Also give me some ideas to clean the deck, I have been using a plastic ice scraper but I want to do a better job then what I'm getting.
Thanks for your input

I have an auto and I could not get the bolt loose even with the impact. I ended up pulling the starter and putting a pry bar in the fly wheel teeth while my dad pulled on the bolt and it finally broke loose. For cleaning the heads what worked best for me was being really careful with a razor blade and then coming back with a scotch brite pad with laquer thinner on it. It took so long but mostly because I was being really careful. I am just glad I am not reusing the old heads or that would have been even more cleaning.

yeah, i think the only option here would be using the above mentioned by chop shop...with usage of that knife just be ultra careful with the block. make sure the lifter openings are masked off with some ole duct tape or something of the like too. that part of the install was my least favorite because its hard to scrape graphite off and just let it fall in the cylinder no matter how much you try to protect everything. it was hard to stomach.

I used a shop vac and razor blade to get the big stuff off. Once all the largers pieces of gasket were off, I just used the razor blade and made sure I was careful. I got the balancer bolt off by removing the starter, sticking a stout screw driver in there through the flywheel and went to town. I also have taken the bolt out with a pancake compressor and an impact. It took about ten minutes of trying, letting the air build back up, but it eventually worked.

^^^ He's trying to get the bolt off.... Try soaking it in PB blaster real good and let it set for about an hour, then give it a whirl. If not impact gun will be your friend.

For your problem with getting it to hold tight, pull off the little plastic cover by the oil filter and put the thickest phillips screwdriver you can fit into one of the flywheel holes. That's worked for me 3 times now on this car.

I have an old pry bar with a kink on one end. It's about 28" long. I placed the bar under a deep socket on the crank bolt with the kinked end between the spokes of the balancer. Came right off using my breaker bar.
