Default Did I ........

over rev my motor?

While leaving work today I was rolling 70KPH/42mph *i live in Germany* I rolled gentely on the gas to 100Kph70or so, and expected it to shift when it hit 6grand but nothing I kept rolling thinking the shift was a RPM away but it finaly shifted at 7 1/4. the shift was not hard it kinda just slid into the last gear. I let off for the upcoming curve. Nothing seems wrong with the car but it now that I look back i'm starting to worry ...

the car did this the other morning but instead of a roll I was pulling out onto the street, gunned it and it went to 7.25 and I let off before it could shift, I did it so fast that i didn't realise what i did. there was no shift.

is this over reving?

Are you sure the tach is right. the Rev limiter should have kicked in way before that. With a stock cam and springs I didn't even think the motor would turn that fast.

stock internals....
I had a tune shop >>>> do a "full" dyno/tune and "SET" my rev lim. at 6200 either it wasn't set (good to know now that I'm not in the states anymore and a waste of 450 plus a broke car) or something is broke?!?!?!

with a newborn and a lovely Uncle Sam work hour special I don't need this mess. I love driving car and just need it to work right.....

I would for sure take it back to the shop that tuned it and have them check it out. Sounds like a tuning issue. The tranny can be a little behind the computer before it actually changes but not by that much.

Listen for the sound of bent pushrods...

A stock LS1 engine should not see the light of day when it touches 7k rpm.

I'd also take it back to the shop that did the tune, Even if the tranny didn't shift, you should have hit the limiter at 6200rpm. It's not like the car makes any appreciable power after 5500 rpm anyways in stock form.

I wish I could take it back to the shop but I shipped the car 5days after the tune. I'm in Germany with it now. I have had no choice but to drive it and all seems ok, no noise or anything sounding out of the norm.

I have a guy here with EFIlive could he be of use?

Well I over revved my 98z with a 2-3-2 shift and when ur at almost 6k and u downshift into 2nd no rev limiter helps. Yours doesnt sound bad at all, if anything the first thing I would check if for bent pushrods which is very simple. By the way it sounds if the car is driving fine u most likely do not have any bent valves but if you really arent sure do a compression test. With mine I bent 7 of 16 pushrods, shattered 2nd and needed new bearings in the tranny, and also bent the valves(dont know how many yet). So good luck with your search doesnt sound too bad to me though.

It actually sounds like you have a tranny problem. I doubt over revving in the fashion that you did it will hurt anything. I would get the shift points on the tranny checked too.

My thoughts on the tranny issue as well but I would still check the pushrods just to be sure they can be bent slightly and not notice much if anything but a good idea to replace if found.

I agree, but I doubt there is any damage. When I finished my mods on my car, I accidently over revved it more than once on spray. It seems at some point when we were screwing around with the tune we shut off my limiter, or something.

But if there is damage, you should fix it, but that is the result of the tranny not shifting. If you dont fix that it will happen again. I would also be very careful about over revving again since you know about it now.

thank guys .... reading what you guys have said makes me feel at ease now....like I said it still sounds fine with no clatter or unusual engine noise..... I wish I had teh cash to drop on a A4>M6 swap and that would fix atleast the tranny fault...I'll have time next week to get the base hoby and there I'll have a friend look it over for me.

thanks for your thoughts
