Default Can't stand the TRex cams... looking for good DD cams

I just aquired a 93 RX-7 with LS6 swap. I have lots of experience with turbo imports but am new to V8 world so I didn't know what I was getting into... well, I didn't know much about cams so I didn't think much of it when I saw TR T-Rex cams on the mod list... big mistake. While it can be daily driven, it's just pain in the *** and it seems like I can't let the RPMs drop below 2000. So I'm looking to get different cams.

Here is my current engine mod list:

LS6 Block with 40k original miles
New LS6 Heads with sodium filled exhaust valves
LS6 intake manifold
Diamond forged pistons
Je total seal rings
Balanced and blueprinted engine
GM MLS head gaskets
Thunder Racing T-Rex Camshaft
PRC dual valvesprings/titanium retainers
Texas Speed Chromoly pushrods
Comp lifters
Clevite coated cam/main/rod bearings
ARP 12 point head/main studs
ARP 2000 Rod bolts
Callies Compstar rods
New oil pressure and temp sensors
1 3/4" Ceramic Coated Long Tube Headers with V-bands
Hinson Supercars Deluxe mounting kit
Aluminum driveshaft
Custom Aluminum Radiator
Slim FAL Cooling Fan
Walbro 255lph high pressure fuel pump
Corvette fpr
Delphi 42# injectors
LS2 timing chain
New GM engine seals/gaskets
LS1 engine wiring
1999 LS1 Ecu
LS1 MAF sensor
Polyurethane filled motor mounts
ATP rubber intake elbows
Dual 3" to single 4" exhaust
Two 3" dynamax bullet mufflers
Flowmaster 30 series 4" muffler
K&N Cone Filter
3.5" Custom Air Intake Piping
HPTuners Pro engine management

Sorry for some irrelevant stuff in the list for this topic. Anyway, I'm looking for cams that is daily driver friendly and can pass the sniffer test. I've been doing some research and TR224/224 lsa114 looks like a good fit for me. However, I'm wondering if I should go bigger... Can you guys recommend some good cams for me? If you guys could also tell me what kind of power I should expect with your recommended cams, that would be great as well. Thanks in advance.

get a F13 from futral! If you've been as big as a TREX but want to come down in size a little, a f13 should give you what you are looking for.

Since you said emmisions compliance is a concern, I would go with the 224/114.

coming down from the t-rex to a 224 is going to feel like you put a stock cam back in it.

I recommend the G5X1 (228/232 112+4)

With a light car like an FD, you can make the cam a little more top-end oriented than typical DD cams. Something like a 232/236 .615/.602 114LSA +2 advance. You would have 6 degrees of overlap at .050" instead of 25 degrees of the T-Rex. This would make a huge difference in drivability.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'm really leaning towards 224 114. Max power really isn't my concern, but making the car enjoyable for everyday driving is. Although it would be nice to make good power while I'm at it

My Pat G cam made 390hp and 372ft-lbs in my '02 with stock heads/throttle body/pulley. It drives like a dream and makes 350ft-lbs at 3200rpm!

So how is the drivability with that cam? Low RPM 6th gear no problem?

Well that cam is VERY streetable, even w/out a tune, plus they make good power. You could go a little bigger if you wanted but it sounds like the 224 will meet your needs the best.

Drivability will be outstanding. Power up high will be close to the T-Rex. It just won't have as violent of mid-range. You will be able to lug down to 1000 rpm in 6th gear.
