Default are my 2000 LS1 heads 241's or 853's?

when i did heads/cam last year (mods in the signature) i didn't check the number on the heads but i want to make sure since after a search in yahoo i found that the 1998-2000 f-body's get the 853's and the 2001-2002 get the 241's, is 853's what my 2000 Z28 does have?

thanks.

I was almost sure that my 2000 had 241's but since I cannot go outside and see my car at work I did a google search and came up with the same info as you did. Good thing I have a spare set of 241's lying around I am going to have to take a look once I get home.

could it be that early 2000 f-body's got the 853's and late 2000 f-body's got the 241's?

i will have to check my car tommorow or so.

can i check the number with out removing the valve covers?

thanks.

Yes you can check the number w/o having to remove the valve covers. It is stamped on the end of the head. Just 3 numbers. Guess its just the 98-99 that recieved the 853 head. Makes me feel a little better now.

yep, 98/99's ,,some LS1's did come with 853's,,just depends on the year of LS1 your talkin about. 853's are the worst flowing of the bunch when comparing to other stock LS1 heads,,,,,,,, pre-port of course.

My car has 853 heads. Wasn't aware that they were the worst flowing heads though. I thought the 98's were.

The changeover was sometime mid-year during 00 production. My friend's 00 built 11/99 has 853's. Mine, built 6/00, has 241's.

You can also tell by the valve covers. The 98 806s will have perimeter bolts, the 853s and the 241s will have center bolts

Not true. 853's are center just like 241's. You're thinking of the 98 only 806's, IIRC.

with work the 853 will flow the same as 241 that are also worked. Meaning yes a stock 241 may flow alil but better then a stock 853, but once both heads are modded they flow the same and will make the same power, maybe

I found out today, i checked my car today and it has 853's. 853 was stampped on the driver side head. i didn't need to remove the valve cover.

the production date was 01/00.

It does now, but it didn't come from the factory with it. Although the head castings were switched mid-year, and possibly some internal upgrades were made (new version oil pump) the LS6 intake and revised camshaft profile didn't come till 2001 model year production.

Quick Reply: are my 2000 LS1 heads 241's or 853's?
