LS1 Engine Removal, Top or Bottom ???
Horsepower TV on the spike channel did a show on removing the engine from a camaro from the bottom.
The Best V8 Stories One Small Block at Time

I had the advantage of the lift, but it was the way to go, IMHO.
...having something heavy duty enough to rest the motor, kmember, transmission, shocks, struts, etc on was the tricky part.
I put the car back together myself, however... Didn't need anyone there to put the K-member back on.
Brakes were no biggie. I didn't need an alignment afterwards. (I went to get one, but it was in spec...) That's the execption to the rule though I think...
never have had to remove anything besides exhaust y pipe, disconnect wiring,
and coolant/ac plumbing.
no nned for any other tools besides a engine hoist and 4 large jackstand, and a jack. never have had to remove the stock intake or heads.
thats news to me
now i have removed thru the bottom also, but this was done in the instance when stock kmember was to be replaced with tubular.
vote for top
have always done it this way, always will.
unless kmember is being replaced with tubular
have removed ls1's with those trans attached to it thru the top and with the hood on car. even lt1's thru the top with t56 and 4l60e
takes me longer to label wiring and grounds, than to pull engine
