Default WooHoooo! Heads and cam are in!!!!!!!!!!

Got my heads and cam installed Friday night......actually Saturday morning.(Thanks Rick and Tommy for the shop and the help!!!) Its an XE 224° .571"/230° .575" 109° LSA +0° with Bo White ported 241s 2.02 and 1.57 valves milled .035". Compression should be right at 11:1. We lit it off on the second turn of the key at 2:30am . I threw in an ASA cam tune I got off of HP Tuners website to get it in the ball park. It idled OK. Next morning though; it wouldn't stay at idle for ****. Had to keep my foot on the accelerator or it would die. Fast forward to toady. Adjusted the idle screw to +5%, reset the TPS, and now it idles steady at 750 rpm. Don't know yet if it will hang when the temp gets up to normal, but so far it doesn't die when I let off the loud pedal . Now for the long; tedious task of scanning and adjusting. Maybe this Saturday I can find time to install the LC1 wideband I have .

Congradulations, the cam you have is very decent lift so you shouldnt have piston to valve clearance problems even with the heads being milled (.035) 11.1 for compression and decent duration but why did you go on a 109 lsa and I dont think Ive ever seen a LS1 cam in person with no advance ground into the cam (0)? Im just curious and not trying to worry you because Im sure its sounds great like it will pull the road up (LOL) and will do real good and I would set that idle up to atleast 900RPM because idleing that low is hard on a motor (oiling). I hope it works out to your expectations. Good Luck

Thanks for the congrats guys. The reason I went with the 109° LSA and 0° advance is because that would give me the valve timing events I wanted at 226° and 230° duration. Basically what I wanted was a larger, more powerful ASA cam without the huge 10° bias on the exhaust lobe since I have a great exhaust system.
Found out this morning on my way to work that I do have a hanging idle when I push the clutch in untill I come to a stop. Oh well; that is part of the game .

Yes, yes it does. Especially in an enclosed shop. At 2:30 am.

Oh, one other thing. The car has 97,400 miles on it and when we took the heads off you could still clearly see the cross hatching on all of the cylinder walls. Durable little motors these LS1s.

What was your PTVC like? My set up is similar to yours with my heads being milled the same and running the ASA cam.

Thanks again for the awesome headwork Bo ! Timing chain and gears were still in great shape but I changed them since I was in there. The damn crank gear was stuck on there pretty good; had to get a puller to get it off. There were no marks on the stock cam at all.

Don't know yet. It should bring big torque in the early mid-range and hang on untill at least 6,300. I do not have easy access to a dyno so an actual curve will be a while off.

We didn't measure PTV. The duration is small enough that there is no chance of contact. When we spun it over with the breaker bar when tightening the rocker bolts we had no trouble at all. The ASA cam has slightlyt more exhaust duration at .006" and .050" but the exhaust valve is smaller so I bet if you go with the same 2.02" and 1.57" valves you will be fine. Can't say if you go with 2.05" or 2.08" and 1.60" if it will be a problem or not.

How much power are you looking to make? I'm in the market for a set of heads and a cam and I have pretty much the same set up as you minus head and a cam obviously.

It should get around 415 hp and similar torque. It is more hp fine; but I would gladly trade a hp of only 405-410 for torque of 420-425.
