hey i am new and like the titel says i have some questions.


ok me and my auto instructor will be building a ls1 engine for his dragster we want to know what the stock redline is on these engines also what is the max that bottem end can handle.

Just take the stock bottom end up to 6,800!

Depends on the valvetrain. I have bounced off a 7100 rpm rev limiter several times.

6200 rpm is the rev limiter stock, and 7000 rpm is no problem with the LS1. It's a good idea to run 6 qts of oil and make sure to check the oil level frequently.

ok thanks he's going to be shifting at 7,000 so wanted to know if any thing specal had to be done.

it will be replacing his 372 small block chevy with this so i will probably be asking more questions

You might want to throw in some rod bolts. Stockers like to break when frequently spun high. Small price to pay for one less thing to worry about.

i have an article i found on here called "son of S.A.M." a school for mechanics that had 6800rpm clutch drops on a stock bottom end. check it out if you can find it, or pm me a fax number and i'll send it to you. thx

Depends on a lot of things. 1997 - 2000 had weaker rod bolts. I wouldnt spin those past 6500 or 6600. The 2001 + had stronger rod bolts and I routinely spin mine close to 7000. Upgrade the rod bolts in any yeah, and it shoudl be pretty stout in terms of RPM.

good to know he is looking for a 01+ short block any ways this is realy help full. so do you think the stock barrings should be replaced for good mesure or is it unnessisary?
